St Peter's College and Loreto perform South Pacific
The weather outside might be frightful but those inside the National Opera House last week were taken on a tour of much sunnier climes courtesy of students from two of the town's most talented schools.
With a partnership going back 17 years the Loreto Secondary School and St Peter's College have been delivering top-quality productions to the people of Wexford since 2002. And their latest show continued this trend.
Written and composed by Rodgers and Hammerstein the 'South Pacific' has played in theatres the world over since premiering in Broadway in 1949 and, according to Loreto teacher and musical director Fintan Kavanagh, the local talent more than did it justice.
'It was fantastic, we were absolutely delighted with it,' said Fintan. 'They performed over three nights and the crowd was bigger each night. It was great to do it in the Opera House, and all the cast, from the characters right down to the chorus, were brilliant.'
Commending all those involved for their dedication, which saw them begin rehearsals back in September, Fintan said the partnership with St Peter's was now very well-established and would be continuing for years to come.
'Our partnership with St Peter's works so well because we basically want the same thing; to allow the kids to perform.'
The Loreto students will be performing Christmas Carols at Clonard Church on Thursday, December 19.
