Local artists feature work in first Wexart exhibition

A NEW exhibition showcasing the considerable talents of a number local artists is open in Westgate until October 16 next.

The first exhibition by Wexart studio members took place last Thursday night in Unit 9 Westgate, formerly home to Westgate Carpets.

Wexart is a new artist-led initiative set up artists living and working in the Wexford area.

This new group is aiming to establish a platform for emerging artists in Wexford and to create a thriving and supportive environment for them to work in.

Wexart also hopes to make its contribution to the cultural and economic development of Wexford town and county.

'We are a non-profit organisation and hope to set up workshops and community based projects in the future,' said a spokesman for Wexart.

The group's main focus is on the visual arts and they have already provided studio spaces for seven artists whose work is currently on show in the exhibition space at Westgate.
