Two days after being announced as an act for this year's Wexford Spiegeltent Festival, everybody's favourite scouser John Bishop sold out both his Wexford shows within just eight minutes of going on sale!
The Liverpudlian comedian was a major coup for the festival, having done three nights back to back in the 3 Arena in Dublin just last year, shipping some 35,000 tickets in the process.
'It was a big deal for us to get him,' said Brian Byrne of The Wexford Spiegeltent Festival. 'He's in the top three comedians operating in Ireland and the UK. In terms of crowds, maybe only Michael McIntyre can compete. I think he's doing five dates in Ireland this year, two of which are with us and I think the other three are in the west. He's not doing Dublin this year at all.'
Bishop will perform on Saturday, October 26, at 7 p.m. under the big top of the Spiegeltent, followed by a matinee the following day, October 27, at 2 p.m.
'It's a bit unusual to have a matinee, but he was due to be filming with the BBC the next day, Brian explained.
A frenzy ensued when tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning and within minutes, they were gone.
'It took just eight minutes,' a delighted Brian said.
'That was online, on the phone and we had around 30 people also came and queued at the box office and they all got sorted. We're really looking forward to the show!'
While John Bishop was a major announcement, as was Jools Holland's show before him, Brian has hinted that another huge act will be announced in the coming weeks, but his lips are sealed on the mystery act's identity.
