It was a night of celebration at Gorey Little Theatre when all the Comhaltas branches from county Wexford came together to take part in their favourite craft of music, song and dance.
MCs on the night were Matt Murphy of Craobh Loch Garman and John Furlong of Ferns CCE. And to add to the enjoyment of the night, the 2019 All Ireland, County and Leinster winners, the Under 15 group from Bannow CCÉ, made a special appearance with the Cumas trad band.
Organiser of the event Sinead Tobin, chairperson of Gorey CCÉ, said that there were helping hands here and there from every branch to make sure the event was a success.
'It was a great night for traditional music; we had an amazing bunch of young people and things really were in full swing.
'We had a full house with about 250 tickets sold. We'd like to thank the theatre hall and Cumas trad band for taking part,' said Sinead.
She explained that Comhaltas would not be as alive and well as it is in the county if it wasn't for the work behind the scenes to run the voluntary organisation.
'A special thanks to all mentors, teachers and parents who put a lot of time and effort into it. We have had a lot of highlights this year, bringing home All Ireland and Leinster titles to Wexford and our night in Gorey brought all of this together,' she said.
For the big finale of the night, all the branch members came together for a performance that involved playing music and singing.
Sinead said that North Wexford in particular had some key events on the Comhaltas calendar, such as the county event in Ferns, but that her personal favourite was when Gorey CCÉ took home the Leinster title following the Fleadh.
'Gorey CCÉ won the Leinster title last in 1988 under the guidance of the late Michael Fitzpatrick. We were delighted to take the title back to Wexford for the first time in 31 years in July,' she said.
The senior band also won the 'Senior Grupa Cheoil' in the competition, while the under 12 and under 15 grupai cheoil also took key places.
County Wexford was well represented at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, with members from Bannow CCÉ, Craobh Loch Garman CCÉ and Tuisceart Loch Garman all participating in various competitions.
