Wexford County Council Arts Office in association with Wexford Production Company 'Bodecii Film' has announced the winner of its new Wexford Film Fund Award for 2019. The winning film production team comprises film director Brian Rossney, producer Edwina Forkin (Zanzibar Productions) and Wexford writer Hannah McNiven.
A special performance of 'Vincent' a play written by Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek fame, will be held in the historic surroundings of Horetown House in Foulksmills on November 17 as part of a national tour by Red Alchemy theatre company of Kilkenny.
St Michael's Theatre Musical Society is bringing the Dolly Parton Musical '9 to 5' to the stage in New Ross from November 20 to 24. Directed by Kevin Kennedy, with musical direction by Philip Kennedy and choreography by Claire Kickham, the musical comedy is an uplifting and fun-filled theatrical treat, packed with big chorus numbers, wonderful ensemble pieces and provocative solos.
A well-known stalwart of Wexford Light Opera Society has been made an Honorary Life Member of the organisation. Pat Lawlor who first appeared with the Society in Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat back in 1977, was presented with the honour on the final night of four-night sold-out run of 'Hits from the Musicals' in Clayton Whites Hotel.
Renowned poet and winner of last year's Anthony Cronin International Poetry Award at the Wexford Literary Festival, Joe Neal, made a welcome return to Enniscorthy Library to read from his newest collection of poetry. The rather eccentrically titled 'Rossetti's Wombat' is Joe's sixth volume of poetry and comes off the back of an arts council bursary tour of New England.
Wexford Festival Opera returned to the work of Saverio Mercadante this year, for the first time since 2010's 'Virginia', with 'Il Bravo', one of the composer's better-known operas that enjoyed success in La Scala when it was first performed in 1839.
