The Holy Family Confraternity Band (HFC) is linking up with Music Generation Wexford for an exciting project which will see 30 young people taking part in a week-long music camp next Easter.

An information evening about the project will be held this Wednesday, September 12 at 6pm in Scoil Mhuire, Coolcotts and interested young players from within the band and outside are invited to go along with their parents.

The HFC concert band has been working closely with Music Generation to encourage young people to play brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.

Now Music Generation's development officer in Wexford Katherine Atkinson is collaborating with them on an exciting project due to take place at Easter 2019.

Young people will participate in a week-long music camp subsidised by Music Generation which is managed by Wexford Music Education Partnership, led by Wexford and Waterford Education and Training Board (WWETB) in partnership with Wexford County Council.

The band's junior members, along with their parents, are encouraged to attend the information evening to hear details about the project and the rehearsal and events schedule for the year ahead.

You don't have to be a member of the band to attend however. Any musicians under the age of 18, who has learned to play a wind (brass or woodwind) or percussion instrument, are also encouraged to go along.

Music Generation Wexford is part of Ireland's national music education programme initiated by Music Netwok and co-funded by the rock band U2, the Ireland Funds, the Department of Education and Skills and Local Music Education Partnerships.

The HFC Concert Band will also resume rehearsals on September 12 after the long summer break. The band has a senior and a junior ensemble and is particularly interested in developing its junior section. For more information contact band secretary, Alan Mahon, on 087 6260889 or email alanmahon4@gmail.com
