WEXFORD families who made the journey across the Irish Sea in search of work in London are due to make the return journey back to Enniscorthy early next year as the Fr Murphy GAA Club in London celebrates 60 years.
The club, which forms a central outlet for the London Wexford Association, are planning a major celebration to mark six decades, which will culminate in a large dinner dance at The Riverside Park Hotel. Organisers are hopeful that members, past and present, will travel in their droves to the event and enjoy some time taking in all that the motherland has to offer. The event has been pencilled in for Easter Saturday, March 31 and it is hoped that it will be a big occasion.
Speaking at the most recent Municipal District Meeting, Cllr Barbara Anne Murphy said that everyone involved with the Fr Murphy's club was excited for the event and couldn't wait to celebrate in style in Enniscorthy.
'They also asked if we could send over some camogie players and ladies' footballers to them,' Cllr Murphy laughed. 'I told them only if they could send some nurses and teachers back the other way!'
