A musical project by a County Wexford student resulted in the song reaching the top 5 in the Irish iTunes charts last week.
'Wonder Child', which was written by composer Jimmy MacCarthy and is sung by Mary Byrne, began out of a college project from New Ross man David Doyle who is a graduate of Ballyfermot College of Further Education (BCFE). The charity single was written to raise money for Barnardos. The song is backed vocally by a group of talented staff members of Bank of Ireland who volunteered their time to this worthy cause and deserving charity.
The charity single was David's end of year project to finalise his degree at BCFE,
David said he was delighted with the response to the single, which climbed the charts last week, hitting No 5. David secured the services of award winning musical director Ivan McKenna who arranged and produced the track. Ivan has shows such as I,Keano and Riverdance to his name.
David overlooked and managed the project for release in June and the song has received a great reaction nationwide. 'Wonder Child' can be downloaded for .99 cent via at iTunes or Google Play or pop into your branch of Bank of Ireland for a physical copy.
Barnardos children's charity is currently working with more than 11,300 children and families, whose lives are marred by issues such as poverty, neglect and educational disadvantage, in their 40 centres in Ireland.
