'Walkies' time raises thousands for charity

CARING CANINES put their best paws forward on Monday as they completed the Wexford leg of the National Dog Walk.

Sponsored by Petmania stores nationwide, this is the second year of the National Dog Walk and on Monday over 100 pets paraded around Wexford to raise sponsorship cash for the Carers Association.

According to Marian Mahon of the Wexford Carers Association, the event was a great success.

Sunshine spilled onto the route which started at Petmania and went to Killeens Roundabout, back up through Pinewood, down to Liam Mellows Park, through Corish Park, Clonard and back to base.

'There were dogs of all shapes and sizes,' said Marian who adds that despite the large number of pets they were all well behaved on the day.

Doggie bags were handed out to participants on the day, while Beat FM pumped out tune.

There were water stations in the grounds of Petmania to keep the animals hydrated, while lots of sweets were handed out to children.

'It was a fantastic day and the sun shone. I think it was even better than last year,' said Marin, who added that the 2010 event raised €2,700 for the Wexford charity.

Participants have until May 8 to return sponsorship cards from this years event.
