Four Wexford Reserve Defence Force (RDF) soldiers have retired from the organisation, with almost 140 years of service between them.
Company Quartermaster Sergeant P.J. Walker (1976 to 2019), Captain Paul Bolger (1979to 2018), Corporal Michael Mahoney (1992 to 2017) and Sergeant Frank Murphy (1976-1979 and 1991-2018), all from the RDF E Coy Third Infantry Battalion, were honoured at a function in the Wexford Barracks, followed by a reception in The Pike Bar.
The four retirees followed in a family tradition of service in the Defence Forces and had extensive training and experience in the forces over the years. They were involved in the recruitment, training and development of many other Reserve personnel.
The function was organised by Lieutenant Brian Kavanagh and Corporal Gareth Lloyd and the ceremony was presided over by Commandant Enda McDonald.
Presentations were made by Sergeant Andy Carty and Sergeant Dick Martin.
Most of the retirees enjoyed service in Gormanstown, the Curragh and Kilkenny with Lieutenant Bolger and CQMS Walker having served on the border in the early 1980s.
Commandant McDonald paid tribute to the men for their service and to their families for supporting them.
