An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is to be among over 1,000 delegates that will arrive in Wexford for the Fine Gael National conference which takes place in Clayton Whites Hotel this Friday and Saturday.
The conference comes on the back of a crucial meeting of the European Council on Thursday and Friday and thus will put Wexford at the centre of Irish and European politics as all eyes will be on the Taoiseach returning from the meeting which will see key decisions on Brexit made.
According to a Fine Gael spokesperson, it is hoped that a 'high profile politician' from the European People's Party will also be in attendance.
The conference will get under way on Friday evening with a session on Brexit and Ireland's future in Europe. While Saturday will see a full programme focusing on social protection, education and tax reform; building a modern Ireland - focusing on protecting children online and women's health; encouraging vibrant communities across Ireland with a focus on housing and rural regeneration; Northern Ireland engagement and finally women in politics.
Some of the Saturday sessions are due to be televised on RTÉ1 in the morning, while the Taoiseach's main address which takes place at 8.30 p.m. will also be beamed across the nation.
Predictably, the upcoming European and Local elections will also take a huge emphasis at the conference and it will represent the first time that all seven Fine Gael European candidates will have appeared together.
