Selskar College is one of the best-read schools in the country and that's official.
The college has just received the inaugural Well Read National Award, one of 33 schools in the country to be so rewarded.
Well Read is an initiative from the Professional Development Service for Teachers to highlight the importance of reading cultures in schools as part of students' personal and academic development.
Principal Eimear Ryan said, 'This award is a wonderful achievement and truly recognises the reading journey the students of the College have undertaken in recent years.'
The Well Read Award was celebrated on the day when the heavy rain drove those taking part indoors instead of enabling them to hold a flag raising ceremony in front of the college, however, with after making allowances for the weather the occasion passed off well.
'The journey still continues to ensure all students, whether junior or leaving cycle, discover the power of reading for both academic attainment and reading for pleasure,' said Eimear.
