Wexford racecourse is well known throughout the country for its horse racing events but it provided the venue for a race of a different kind when the Wexford branch of Comhairle na nÓg held its Colour Run there to raise awareness about the organisation.

The event, which was very well supported, was also aimed at encouraging parents and children to adopt healthier lifestyles and engage in active, outdoor pursuits.

A spokesperson for the Wexford branch said the chosen topic this year was positive mental health and with that in mind there were a number of local community support organisations represented at the event including Pieta House, It's Good 2 Talk and the FDYS.

Speaking to this newspaper Paula Kelly, from the FDYS, said there were 60 participants who were very enthusiastic in how they embraced the spirit of the event.

'It wasn't a fundraiser and any money raised just went towards covering the costs of holding it,' she said.

'It was more about raising awareness about the importance of positive mental health and also about the significance of getting involved in active, healthy, outdoor activities,' she added.
