Pensioner asks court to return €16,000

A PENSIONER who had €16,000 cash confiscated when Gardai searched his house under the Offences Against the State Act failed to get some of the money returned to tide him over Christmas when he made an application in court this week.

Gardai said that the money taken from Thomas Redmond, The Gatepost, Coolree, was crucial to an investigation and needed to be checked for fingerprints and DNA.

Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla therefor adjourned the matter to February. He also advised that Thomas Redmond could make other arrangements with regard to borrowing 'on the strength that he would get the money back'.
