Oyster Lane Theatre launches search for young Oliver! actors

While Andrew Lloyd Webber concluded his search for Nancy' last weekend on reality show I'll Do Anything', Wexford started its own search on Thursday night at the launch of their 2008 production, Oliver!Oyster Lane Theatre Group are going back to basics' this year with the popular children's musical, which is set to have a West End revival later this year.

Oyster Lane Theatre Group are going back to basics' this year with the popular children's musical, which is set to have a West End revival later this year.

The group previously produced Oliver! nearly a decade ago, and are revisiting the popular show for their October production, which will be staged in Dun Mhuire.

Oliver!' is based on Dickens book, Oliver Twist' and tells the tale of an orphaned boy, who becomes member of a pick pocket gang led by Fagin. Other characters in the show include the soft hearted barmaid, Nancy; the cheeky Artful Dodger; the fearsome Bill Sykes; the pompous Mr. Bumble; the wicked, Widow Corney; and the Sowerberry undertakers.

Hit songs from the show include I'll Do Anything', You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two', As Long as He Needs Me' and Where Is Love'.

Auditions for children for the show commence on Saturday, June 7 at Friary Hall from 1 to 8 p.m. and the OLTG require a cast of children aged between 10 and 14 years to play parts in Fagin's gang, and in the orphanage. They are also searching for two young boys to play Artful Dodger and Oliver! himself.

Auditions for principal parts commence on Sunday, June 8 in Friary Hall from 12 noon until 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Directing this year is Paul Walsh, which musical director Patrick Clancy and choreographer Suzanne O'Leary. The cast will be announced on Monday, June 9 at 8.30 p.m.
