Suggestions that Gorey is set to be merged with Enniscorthy as a Garda district were given the thumbs down at the July meeting of Wexford County Council last week.
The prospect of Gorey losing its superintendent and possibly also any inspectors prompted a motion from Cllr. Malcolm Byrne.
The motion adopted read: 'that Wexford County Council expresses its strong opposition to any proposal by An Garda Síochána and the Minister for Justice to downgrade or merge any of the Garda districts in County Wexford.'
The sentiments expressed will be drawn to the attention of Chief Superintendent John Roche when councillors encounter him at the joint policing committee due to meet before the end of the summer.
