Members' queries system queried

THE effectiveness of a members' query system brought into effect last year was queried by councillors.

Cllr Barbara Anne Murphy said: 'We are not using it. How effective is it? I think there is something wrong.'

County Secretary Pat Collins said quite a number of queries have been processed over the past 12 months. 'You have to say it's a very small proportion,' Cllr Murphy replied.

Mr Collins said 300 queries have come in and most have been answered. Cllr John Fleming said a response by date should be provided whenever a query is answered.

'That would solve a lot of problems. These requests go to an outside company. They should say someone will come back to you on such and such a date.'

Cllr Ger Carthy said there are issues with the street lighting system also. 'Neither of them are working. Someone has to be the decision maker or the person responsible.'

He was informed by Cllr Robbie Ireton that there have been two major storms over recent weeks which could explain the time lag.
