Club Whitford handed over a cheque for €1,472 to Kilrane National School, who will put it towards their new class for children with autism, after swimming over 5,000 lengths.
The fundraising committee from Kilrane approached Whitford to ask for help in raising money for children with ASD - Autism Spectrum Disorder.
'We held a Swim-A-Thon where we did 5,050 lengths altogether in our 20 metre pool, so that would be about the same distance from Rosslare to Fishguard,' said Club Whitford staff member Niamh Dennis.
All club members, family and kids from Kilrane school got involved and did as much lengths as they could. When they were done Niamh would count up how many they did.
'It was €5 per person to enter. We did have some people going out with sponsorship cards and we had a donations bucket in Whitford as well. After the swim we held a bake sale for a couple of days,' said Niamh.
The staff at Whitford lit up the pool and gym in blue as they ran the Swim-A-Thon to coincide with Autism Awareness Month.
