CLONROCHE MAN JP Furlong is the owner of a brand new Ford Fiesta, having had his name picked from a drum containing 7,500 names at the Adamstown GAA Club monster draw night, which raised an amazing €140,000 for the club.
PJ collected his shiny new red car last week with his wife Joanne and son Michael.
A large crowd gathered at Cullen's Lounge, Adamstown for the long anticipated Monster Draw organised by St Abbans Adamstown GAA Club. JP Furlong from Forrestalstown, Clonroche, was the lucky winner of the fabulous star prize of a new Ford Fiesta; with the winning ticket drawn from the drum containing over 7,500 entries by independent observer Mr Ger Cody from LG Cody & Co Accountants, New Ross, to rapturous applause from the large local crowd in attendance. Nine other lucky winners were drawn on the night.
Adamstown GAA Club are embarking on an ambitious development of a new Croke Park size flood lit pitch, hurling wall, astro turf area and clubhouse adjacent to the existing community centre with planning permission recently granted by Wexford County Council. This development is necessary to cater for the many adult teams within the club, but also an explosion of underage players now emerging through a rejuvenated Coiste Na Nog section and a very strong ladies GAA club which now also features underage camogie teams.
The monster draw was the clubs first fundraising initiative for the project and was an amazing success in raising over €140,000 in total. The club would sincerely like to thank all those who supported this effort and purchased tickets throughout County Wexford, Carlow and South Kilkenny- (four of the ten prizes went across The Barrow to Kilkenny natives).
Tom Galway of the club said: 'Sincere thanks also to all the many dedicated ticket sellers from the club and all those who sponsored the prizes as the final total raised is testament to their support and efforts over the entire winter. A special mention must go to the draw co-ordinators Mrs Ellen Furlong and Mrs Majella Stafford who excelled in their roles. They fittingly received floral presentations on the night. Thank you also to all the ladies who supplied catering and confectionary for weary and hungry ticket sellers on their return to HQ each evening and to Ger Cody for acting as invigilator for the draw.'
The evening was wrapped up with the announcement of Mr Paul Cullen, Cullen's Gala, Adamstown, as the club main sponsor for 2017 and all club members and players would like to sincerely thank him for his continued support. For anyone whom was not lucky enough to win a prize in the Monster Draw the jackpot in the local lotto now stands at €13,000 and tickets can be purchased online for just €2 by visiting the club website www.adamstowngaa.ie.
'A final thank you to everyone who made the draw such a success and with home grown Adamstown players such James Breen, Shane O'Gorman and Michael Furlong all currently wearing the purple and gold of Wexford at senior level it is proof positive that it is still possible to make it from a small rural club to the bright lights of inter county action once the right structures and environment are put in place for promising young talent.'
