One of Wexford's busiest service stations hosted a coffee morning event that proved to be a great success raising much needed funds for Wexford Hospice Homecare.
The fundraiser took place in Kileens Service Station and it raised €1,636 for the organisation.
The initiative was hosted by Bewley's coffee and the service station donated the takings from tea and coffee served that morning to the fund.
A spokesperson for the store commented to this newspaper that people were very generous and in many cases members of the public put in extra money into the box even after paying for their drink.
'It was very popular and people didn't have any problem supporting it,' she said.
A significant thing about such hospice fundraisers is that the money that is raised locally stays local and that means the people who contributed have the satisfaction of knowing they will be directly helping Wexford Hospice Homecare carry out its work throughout the county.
It was the second year the event has been held in Kileens Service Station and the organisers were delighted with the response and with the success of the initiative.
In addition to the money raised from people buying tea and coffee other people also supported the fundraiser by donating money into the box regardless of having bought a drink or not.
'People just donated directly to the box as well which was great to see,' said the spokesperson.
