Eight Wexford gymnasts are fundraising for the trip of a lifetime as they hope to represent their county and their country in the European Acrobatics Championships in Holon, Israel, next month.
Aoibhe Ormonde, Isabella Gainford, Aoife Prunty, Alison Doyle, Abby Mulligan, Katie Nolan, Eve Kinsella and Mair Williams have been selected for team Ireland having put in upwards of 15 hours training per week under the guidance of coaches Aoife Dalton and Joanne Mahoney.
With the logistics of travelling to Israel not coming cheap, the girls, their coaches and proud parents are working together in order to try and raise funds to offset the trip and ensure that the purple and gold will be flying proudly in Holon in October.
One of many upcoming fundraisers is a major street collection on Saturday, September 21, which is supported by Lantern Presents and will take place outside of their box office on the Main Street.
The girls will be present on the day and there will also be ticket give-aways from Lantern that are sure to provoke the interest of passing shoppers.
Other upcoming events include table quizzes at Gaynor's Pub on Friday, September 20 and The Porterhouse in Castlebridge on Thursday, September 26. There will also be a fun day in the Gymstars Club in Barntown on Sunday, September 29, a dress rehearsal where you can see the girls in action on October 19 and bucket collections which will take place all over the county in the coming weeks.
For those who wish to donate, a GoFundMe page has also been set up and you can find the link at the Gymstars Club Facebook page.
The girls would like to thank everyone for their support and kind messages so far and are hoping to do their county proud in Israel when the championships roll around.
