First Food Summit whets local producers' appetites
THERE was a great turn out of food business industry members at the Ferrycarrig Hotel for the inaugural Wexford Food Summit.
People from food producing companies, large and small, came to hear Minister Brendan Howlin speak on the importance of the food industry to the country and the efforts being made to grow it.
Nicholas Dunne, of Killowen Farm, shared the fascinating story of the Killowen Farm brand and the evolution of their family business.
Kenneth O'Connor, of Musgrave Retail Partners, gave a useful presentation on how food brands can get listing in Musgrave retail outlets through the Food Academy.
Michael Murphy, of Bord Bia, spoke about ways to grow food businesses and the supports that Bord Bia offers.
There was an animated panel discussion facilitated by Paula Ronan, CEO and founder of the Wexford Food Family, with a panel made up of Bettie Marie Burger Smit of the Brandon House Hotel; Colin Jephson of Ardkeen Quality Foodstore; Breege Cosgrave of Wexford County Enterprise Board; Pauline Dunne of Killowen Farm; Neil Murphy of Wexford Creamery (chair and co-founder of the Wexford Food Family); Michael Murphy of Bord Bia, and Kenneth O'Connor, of Musgrave Retail Partners.
The summit ended with a specially designed Wexford lunch, developed by renowned chef Tony Carty.
The event was sponsored by Wexford County Enterprise Board.
