Farmer of the Year awards are back

Ireland's biggest farming competition, the Farming Independent Zurich Farmer of the Year awards are back, with new categories and a fantastic prize fund of over €25,000.

If you think you are one of the country's top farmers - or you believe that you know one of the best there is - now is your chance to get a nomination form in. All you need to say is why you think your nominee would be a worthy winner coveted awards.

There a number of ways to enter - simply fill out the application form in the Farming Independent, or log on to www.Farmeroftheyear.ie to apply online. You can also download an application form from the website and post it in.

A new category has been added this year to promote excellence in farm safety, which is being sponsored by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA). It is joined by categories championing Tillage, Sheep, Dairy, Beef, Equestrian, Alternative farm enterprises and Rising Stars.

The alternative farm enterprise category gives farmers involved in more niche enterprises such as vegetables, fruit, pigs, flowers, and organics, along with those engaged in forestry to show-case their achievements.

The Rising Star section is aimed at recognising the huge pool of talent that is coming up through the ranks of Irish agriculture in all enterprises. Prizes worth €2,500 will be presented to each category winner as well as a top prize of €5,000.
