Emma Byrne, from Chapel, Adamstown, has been selected as the Wexford Rose for 2019 and will go on to represent her county at the sixtieth annual Rose of Tralee International Festival in Kerry from Friday, August 23 to Tuesday August 27, among 31 other roses from Ireland and around the world.
With her eyes set on the Rose Ball, due to take place in the Dome in Tralee, Emma is no stranger to the stage, having been a finalist in Wexford Has Talent, which took place in Clayton Whites Hotel in March.
This time around Emma stunned the crowd with her rendition of 'Fix You,' by Coldplay, and Emma's mother Patrice said the crowd were mesmerised.
'You could hear a pin drop, she really got an amazing response,' said Patrice Byrne.
The Wexford Rose was selected at the Amber Springs Hotel in Gorey in front of a crowd of about 200 people, all enjoying entrainment from the 16 Wexford ladies as well as Galway Bay FM's Ollie Turner, who was MC on the night.
Emma Byrne spoke about her interests, such as singing, Irish dancing, horse riding and show jumping.
In 2017, Emma and her sister Meave, had success at the Dublin Horse Show, and Emma is a member of the Wexford Pony Club.
Emma is the eldest daughter of Ted and Patrice Byrne, sister to Meave and Eamonn, and she went to school at Loreto Secondary School, Wexford.
She is now studying primary school teaching at St Patrick's College, in Dublin.
Although Emma is busy currently studying for her college exams, she says that she can't believe that she will be representing her county at the festival.
Outgoing Wexford Rose, Saoirse Walsh, said that her experience over the past year has been magical.
'From as long as I can remember, the Rose of Tralee International Festival played a huge part in my family's life and to be given the opportunity to represent my county on the international stage has been the greatest honour,' she said.
The Wexford Rose Festival has selected Wexford Hospice Home Care as its charity cause for the year, and sponsors on the night were Glamourize Hair Design and Liz Collins Boutique.
