A Curracloe woman has been rewarded for her long service to the Diocese of Ferns with a special award from Pope Francis himself.
Edith Redmond recently celebrated 50 years of serving the diocese. She has been a mainstay, working at the Bishop's House since 1969 and has overseen all aspects of hospitality in her years there.
Bishop Denis Brennan spoke extremely highly of Edith's contribution over the years and the wonderful work she does while presenting her with the Papal Award 'Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice'.
Speaking at the conferral, the Bishop said that the award was 'richly deserved for a ministry that not only spanned decades, but which was immense in terms of its outreach and good effect'. It was a proud day for Edith who was joined by her family specially for the occasion.
Meanwhile, Parish Priest at Kilrane, Fr Diarmuid Desmond, has been appointed to the Cathedral Chapter by Bishop Brennan with the title of Canon. Again, Bishop Brennan paid tribute to Fr Desmond and the great service he has given over the years.
