Drug charges at children's court

■CANNABIS worth €600 was discovered in a car parked in the Oulart-The Ballagh GAA grounds in December 2008, gardaí told Judge David Anderson last week. Two of the teenage occupants of the red 1997-registered Honda Civic appeared on drug possession charges before a children's court sitting in Ardcavan last week. A bench warrant was made out for the arrest of the third, who was the owner of the vehicle.

The court was told that it was around 10 p.m. when the Gardaí approached the Honda parked near to the GAA clubhouse. They discovered a lump of a brown substance, as well as a pen-knife smeared with the brown substance and a piece of timber apparently being used in the cutting up of the drug. The owner of the pen-knife had a joint in the rear pocket of his jeans and several packets of rizla papers came to light.

The judge issued the warrant for the missing member of the trio, and ordered the Gardaí to provide copies of all evidence including videotape to the defence. He then put back the case until April 14.
