Dog's barking leads to rescue of drowning pup in Kilmore Quay

A DOG called Rocco has been awarded a lifesaving badge after he alerted his owner to the plight of a young dog that had fallen into the harbour at Kilmore Quay.

Ken Scanlon said he was on his boat with Rocco when he began barking at what he first thought were seals.

'He ran along the marina, barking and then up and down and eventually I followed him and across and saw the other dog, a Poodly-type, which had fallen from his owner's boat and was struggling to stay afloat.'

Ken said he called the pup's owner who gratefully hauled the soggy canine from the sea.

'He has a little lifesaving badge now that I put on him,' said Ken.
