Community spirit alive and kicking as over 100 people at forum's AGM

'COMMUNITY SPIRIT IS alive and well in Wexford'. That was the message coming from the County Wexford Community Forum annual general meeting held at the Riverside Park hotel in Enniscorthy last week. More than one hundred people attended the gathering and enjoyed displays from groups including Buí Bolg, Campile Historical Society, Bree ICA, Gorey Carriage Driving Club, Westgate Computer Centre, Gorey Family Resource Centre, Wexford Friends of the Tall Ships, Gorey Arch Club, Edermine Rowing Club, Wexford County Council Arts Department, Sports Active Wexford, Raheen Family Resource Centre, Wexford Citizens Information Centre, CURA, St. Louis Stitchers, Wexford Local Development and PWDI.

Chairperson Mary Farrell also welcomed businessman Sam McCauley who gave an excellent presentation based on his experiences of working with communities in County Wexford. People of the Year award recipient Paddy Byrne launched the new volunteer website www.wexfordvolunteer.ie.

The following people were elected:

county development board - Dave Ormonde (Clonard GAA Club), Femi Adebanjo ( New Ross Community Voice);

economic and social committee – Elizabeth Kehoe (Clongeen Parish), Lucy Medlycott (Buí Bolg);

transport committee - Martin Murphy ( Tara Development Association) to the Transportation SPC;

Wexford County Childcare - Margaret Earle (Dyslexia Association of Ireland);

South East Regional Drugs Taskforce - Ann Lacey (Junglebox Childcare Centre);

South East River Basin Management - Walter Foley (Duncannon Harbour Users);

Local Sports Partnership - Jane Delaney O'Neill ( New Ross Community Voice), Kevin Molloy (Park Avenue Residents Association), Michael Whelan ;

joint policing committee - Mary Farrell ( Kilmuckridge Tidy Towns), Bernard O'Hanlon ( Rathgarogue & District Community Alert), Tommy Redmond (CBDI) to the County.
