Ten year-old Aoife Byrne from Castlebridge was sporting a new look as she arrived back for the new school year last week, having opted to donate a huge chunk of her hair to the Little Princess Trust.
Going into fifth class at Castlebridge NS, it was a conversation in class about conditions like cancer and alopecia and the resulting hair loss that prompted Aoife to research the matter further. Having looked it up online, she came across The Little Princess Trust, an organisation that provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.
Having set herself the task, Aoife kept her hair in great condition and last week, before going back to school, the big day came and hairdresser Louise Whelan came to cut her hair. She was able to donate a total of 12cm of hair which will now go directly to someone in need and her parents Darrell and Caroline are extremely proud of her efforts. Aoife is also delighted with her new look, which is sure to impress her pals on the schoolyard at Castlebridge NS.
