Adult Irish night classes

FOR THOSE who keep meaning to revive their ' cupla focail' but have never gotten around to it, local Irish group Na Macallaí are launching a number of night classes.

The classes will be run at the new Irish language and culture centre in Westgate, An Tobar.

The adult Irish language classes have been up and running for a number of years and cater for beginners right up to those with partial fluency.

The advanced intermediate course which is taught at the standard of B2 on the European Language Framework is recognised by the Department of Education and Skills as meeting the Irish language entry requirements for primary school teacher training courses in the education colleges.

The syllabus and exams are structured different to the Leaving Certificate and are focused on the adult learner with the major emphasis on communicative language skills.

Registration for all of the courses takes place in An Tobar at the Westgate Heritage Centre at 7 p.m. tomorrow ( Wednesday).
