Having seen great support from the people of Wexford thus far, fundraising for an urgent, life-saving operation for a Wexford mother of three is set to continue this weekend with a Bohemian ball at The Riverbank House Hotel.
This is the latest in a string of fundraisers that have been ongoing for Claire Malone (31) who requires a vital surgery to correct post-pneumonectomy syndrome arising from a right lung removal in 2014.
The procedure, which involves inserting a prosthetic gel bag into the cavity and repositioning the heart, is said to be 'experimental' and thus a dedicated committee of friends have been desperately trying to invoke the good will of the people of Wexford to pay for the procedure.
So far a picnic in Redmond Park and a night of music in The Crown Live have been successful and a Go Fund Me page setup for the cause has raised some €6,500 of the €80,000 goal.
Unfortunately, Claire's health is deteriorating and she was recently rushed to Wexford General Hospital where she remained in A&E for some time under 24 hour observation and her team at St Vincent's have now advised against all travel.
On Saturday night, Claire's fundraising committee are hoping that 'Respect - A Bohemian Affair' will be their biggest fundraiser yet. Kindly sponsored by The Riverbank House Hotel, it's described as a 'dress-up, dress-down, alternative night of music, dancing, entertainment and letting your hair down'.
The Bohemian theme is described as 'long coats, baggy patchwork pants, scarves with holes in them, mad hats and peace man!'
Performing on the night will be Jilted Generations along with a whole host of other entertainers.
Tickets for the evening are priced at €20 from the venue with all funds going to help pay for Claire's procedure. Members of the public, as well as local businesses, are asked to dig deep and give whatever they can to ensure that this young mother has a fighting chance of seeing her children grow up and all donations, big and small, are gratefully appreciated.
