BEREAVEMENTS: The parish of Oulart was plunged into deep sadness at the untimely death of fourteen year-old Ciara Woodcock which occurred last Friday, 10th December.

Deepest sympathy is extended to Ciara's mother, Lynn, her sister and brothers and a wide circle of supportive friends and schoolmates who mourn the loss of a vivacious teenager who fought a brave battle, with courage and dignity, during the last couple of years.

Ciara was waked in St. Mochua's Church on Saturday and transferred to St. Patrick's Church on Sunday morning and, following 10am Mass, was laid to rest in the local cemetery. Solas na bhFlaitheas da hanam.


Oulart-The Ballagh G.A.A. club extends sympathy to the wife and family of our Club President, the late Paddy Doran, Borelia, Kilcotty, who died at home on Sunday night, 12th December.

The late Mr. Doran was a life-long supporter of Oulart-The Ballagh G.A.A. and was a familiar figure at matches and training sessions up to quite recently. A quiet, refined gentleman, Paddy Doran will be sadly missed, not only by his devoted wife and family but by friends and Gaels everywhere.

The G.A.A. pitches in the parish were closed, training sessions cancelled and flags were at half-mast until after the funeral of this most respected fear uasal.

Ni bheidh a leithead ann aris! Go ndeana Dia trocaire ar a anam uasal. The Doran family always provided a playing field for Oulart-The Ballagh G.A.A. in Mount Daniel, The Ballagh.


As part of the spiritual preparation for the great feast of Christmas the usual service of reconciliation (Penitential Service) will take will take place in St. Patrick's Church, Oulart on Tuesday 21st December at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend. The parish raffle will be held immediately afterwards, in the Legion Hall.


The Leinster Council postponed, once again, the Leinster Club hurling final between our senior hurlers and O'Loughlin Gaels, Kilkenny. The club has bee notified that the final will now take place in mid to late January.


Oulart-The Ballagh G.A.A. Super Draw, due to be held on 4th December has been deferred, due to the adverse weather conditions, until 18th December at 8pm.

Due to the atrocious and highly dangerous weather conditions the special Mass of thanksgiving and remembrance, organised to remember the former sacristan of St. Patrick's Church, the late Nuala Rossiter, Oulartwick, has been postponed until the New Year when a new date will be announced.


The annual "Oulart Church Fund" raffle, the proceeds of which go towards the upkeep and maintenance of St. Patrick's Church, will be held on 21st December. The usual seasonal prizes are on offer and tickets are €2 each or a book of three for €5.

If you have not yet got tickets, or if you require extra books, please contact the Parochial House. Ticket stubs, unsold tickets and monies collected should be returned to the Parochial House on or before Monday 20th December.


Kilmuckridge-Monamolin branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí na hÉireann are organising a Christmas Concert in Monamolin hall on Sunday afternoon, 19th December starting at 3.30pm. Admission for adults is €5 and children are free.


Do you have an old mobile phone lying around the house or left aside in a drawer or on a shelf? The local primary school would be very happy to take it off your hands! Scoil Mochua is appealing for used mobile phones to help the school reach its target of one hundred so that they can obtain a laptop computer. Please help if you can.


Joan & Friends have organised a Kids Disco for Charity, in Bob's Bar, The Ballagh on Sunday 19th December, 4pm6pm. Admission is five euro and Santa Clause will be in attendance. Proceeds to "Sick Children to Lapland".


On Christmas Day, Joan & Friends will be busy participating in the "Christmas Day Swim" for charity and on the following day, St. Stephen's Day, they are inviting entries to the "Wheelbarrow Race" on the street in The Ballagh, beginning at 3pm.

The entry fee is five euro and everyone is invited to join in the fun. Bring your own wheelbarrow or avail of the barrows provided by the organisers. All who take part will be awarded a medal! "Sick Children to Lapland" will be presented with the proceeds of the race.
