Teachers and staff from Selskar College welcomed prospective students and their parents into the school's halls recently to showcase the best of what it has to offer.
Upon entering the building they were treated to a performance by the Selskar Choir. Addressing the visitors, Deputy Principal John Connolly said those entering Selskar College will have many opportunities to broaden their educational horizons, develop new personal skills, learn new sports, engage with extracurricular activities and achieve their ambitions.
He also highlighted the possible challenges and concerns that all first-year students and parents face as they embark on this new journey, 'I can assure you that here at Selskar College we have well developed structures and processes in place to ensure that all your concerns are addressed and your highest expectations are met. We maximise the opportunities for students to reach for the stars and pursue their choice of career whether this involves going on to direct employment, getting an apprenticeship, doing a PLC or pursuing a course at an Institute of Technology or at University.'
The students and parents then visited the school's various departments, learning about erosion on the polar caps in the Geography room, gaining cooking skills in the Home Economics room and seeing projects being worked on in the Woodwork and Metalwork departments.
There was also a display of well-being literature and the PE department students put on a display of basketball, gymnastics and badminton with many of the visiting students trying their hand at these games. In the art department the students observed the panoramic view of Wexford town as busy art students exhibited the many different facets of the subject.
