Over €5,000 has been raised for Temple Street Children's University Hospital at a fundraising event organised by a Wexford family.
Following the passing of her daughter Chloe (4) in 2006, Helen Walsh and her family set up the annual event with the intention of donating all proceeds towards the hospital where Chloe was treated.
Now in its eighth year, the fundraiser continues to grow in popularity and, following a night of music, entertainment and prizes, a sum of €5,480 is now on its way to the Dublin hospital.
Music on the night came from Jimmy Hogan and Lar Kenny; Blue Lace who are comprised of John and Leslie Dunne; the Moynihan Brothers, Arthur and Tommy; and Cathal and Teddy Barry. All bands provided their services free of charge.
'It was a very good night now, we had a great turnout,' said Helen. 'We've been running this for eight years. We set it up in my daughter's name after she passed away at the age of 4.'
Thanking the sponsors for donating the prizes, which were then raffled on the night, and Danny McNulty of Temple Street who represented the hospital, Helen was keen to praise the people of Wexford who have been so generous since the fundraiser was set up.
'We go out door-to-door selling tickets and people always make an effort to pay even if they don't intend to turn up on the night. That's something we really appreciate.'
Temple Street cares for 150,000 children per year, including over 45,000 who attend its Emergency Department.
