Wexford Kung Fu and Kickboxing Centre in Whitemill was the location for a fundraising barbecue aimed at supporting a number of kick-boxers who have qualified to represent Ireland in the World Kickboxing Championships which will take place in City West, Dublin, later this year.

There were over 100 people in attendance at the event which is the main fundraising initiative organised by the club each year.

Speaking to this newspaper about the barbecue Bobby O'Neill, who runs the kickboxing centre, said it was a great success and he thanked those who helped on the night.

'This year we have six fighters who qualified for the world championships, which is great,' he said.

While this year's event will take place in Dublin in 2019 the world championships are scheduled to take place in Niagra Falls and the fundraising events organised by the club goes towards the club's Fighter Fund which helps support the competitors.

Music at the barbecue was provided by a DJ and Mr O'Neill said there was also kids entertainment on-site.

'It was a great day and we were delighted with how it went,' he said.
