History and the finest contemporary trad and folk music are to combine at a special event at the Irish National Heritage Park later this month. The first ever Wexford Trad & Folk Trail kicks off from 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 25.
Combining the experience of treading through centuries of Irish history and listening to live performances of Irish traditional music, the afternoon is set to feature the cream of Wexford talent scattered around the 40 acre park. Over 20 performances will take place around the park with acts of the calibre of the Wexford Folk Orchestra, Mick D'Arcy, Basciville, The Wild Turkeys, Danecastle Music Group, Bladderack, Sea Shanty Singers, Macken's Singer-Songwriting Group, Nora Kavanagh Trio, Craobh Loch Garman, Castlebridge Folk Singers, The Reveille Family, Co. Wexford Traditional Singers, Ann Marie Corcoran, Alice Wickham and James McIntyre, Ciara O'Grady Sean Nos dancers and Callum Orr.
Each of the seven stages in the park, including the monastery, crannóg, Viking boat yard and restaurant terrace, will present close-up sessions of music, singing, sean nós and readings. Organised by Craobh Loch Garman Comhaltas, the Trad & Folk Trail follows hot on the heels of the successful Wexford Trad & Folk Weekend which took place back in March.
The fun kicks off at 2 p.m., reaching its conclusion at 4 p.m. with a special not to be missed finale. A free park and ride service will be operational throughout the day at Wexford County Council's headquarters in Carricklawn.
