Members Clonard Guides had a great evening at their yearly enrolment ceremony which was held at Clonard Community Centre.
The club, which has over 60 members including adult Leaders, presented neckerchief and section pins to kids progressing to different sections of the club. This year, the club's Cygnets are celebrating their 20 anniversary while next year will see the Brigins turning 40. The Guides and Rangers section of the club is new and will be a year old next year.
This year, the club welcomed four new cygnets, seven new brigins, 11 new guides and two new rangers. Michelle Goff, one of the club leaders said that in the case of the guides, all but one had come up through the rangs of cygnet and brigins before that. The girls also received award badges for all of the work they have been doing since last September.
She said: 'It's great for the girls and we've had people coming back saying they were friends with girls in the cygnets and they're still friends now when they're in college.'
The year runs from September to June for the club and, over the next few weeks, each group will be able to get out and about for hikes and fun days as well as camping trips and visits to the Raven and the beach. The guides and rangers will take part in a camp in London during the summer.
The club is always open to new members. It meets at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays in Clonard Community Centre - cygnets at 4 p.m., brigins at 5 p.m. and guides and rangers at 7 p.m. All are weclome to attend. For more information, contact Michelle on 086 056 7929.
