Awards presented on CTEC's tenth anniversary

THE Annual Presentation of Awards Ceremony for graduates of the Community Training and Education Centre – CTEC – took place at Whites Hotel in Wexford.

This year's celebration was particularly memorable as 2013 is also CTEC's 10th anniversary.

Opening the ceremony, Training Manager Rachel Tucker welcomed the graduates and their families, commending them on their achievements and commenting on the changes and developments over the last ten years.

The Mayor of Wexford Cllr. George Lawlor then addressed the group, congratulating them on their academic success.

The Mayor went on to note major developments at CTEC. The organisation was formed in 2003 and began life in small rented accommodation in Francis Street. In 2008, CTEC moved to its current location in Norse Gate House, St Peter's Square – and now provides certified courses in state of the art training facilities. The courses on offer have also expanded as have the numbers receiving certification at the centre.

Over the last ten years, CTEC have provided certification for approximately 6,500 learners. Of these, 600 learners received FETAC level 5 major awards, 120 received FETAC level 6 major awards and over 4500 learners received FETAC minor awards at levels 3, 4, 5 and 6. In addition, CTEC provided certifications for ECDL, Equalskills, Microsoft Office Master and the JEB Teacher's Diploma in ICT Skills during this time.

Chairperson of Wexford County Council and Chairperson of CTEC, Alderman Ted Howlin addressed the gathering, commending learners on their hard work and success and noting that CTEC has earned a well-deserved reputation for providing excellent training courses that give learners increased opportunities for employment over the last ten years.

This year, graduating students received FETAC level 6 Advanced Certificates in Early Childhood Education and Care, FETAC level 5 National Certificates in Early Childhood Education and Care, FETAC level 5 National Certificates in Healthcare Support and FETAC level 5 National Certificates in Health Service Skills.

In addition, learners received FETAC level 6 Train the Trainer, ECDL, Equalskills and FETAC level 5 component awards in healthcare, childcare and business.
