St Paul's AC
Congratulations and well done to all our athletes who were in action over the last week, it was a busy weekend as the Tailteann Games, AAI Games and all-Ireland Combined Championships were all held over the two days in Morton Stadium, firstly a huge shout out to Gergely Pap, who won double Gold, for a second weekend in a row, in the Discus and Shot in the Tailteann Games, he had a great series of throws in the Discus with a New PB of 38.80m almost three meters ahead of his nearest competitor, it was straight from the Discus to the Shot without any break, but this didn't put Gergley off and his throw of 13.85m ensured he finished in first place. Gergely will now be representing Ireland in the International Schools SIAs Championships, which will be held in Swansea this year in July, it is a fantastic achievement to qualify to represent your country in one event never mind two.
Emma Owens was competing in the Women's Hammer and Discus in the AAI Games, where she finished comfortably in first place in the Hammer and second in the Discus. Maeve Hayes was attempting her first Heptathlon in the all-Ireland Youth Championships, where she finished in second place, Maeve was competing in seven events over the two days, 100m Hurdles (which she set a new PB 15.54), High Jump, 200m and Shot on day one and Long Jump, Javelin and 800m (another PB 2.30, taking five seconds off her previous PB) on day two.
Our younger athletes were in action in the County B Championships in Enniscorthy on Friday night, we had six athletes competing, Catherine O'Leary, who was first in the under-10 300M, Lucy Stafford, who was second under-nine Long Jump and third in the 60m sprint, Ruth Stafford qualified out of her heat in the under-nine 6m finishing in sixth place in the final, Tadgh Wright, Matt Duro and Caolan Kelly also competed well in the Sprints, Long Jump, Turbo Javelin and 300m. Well done to all.
We wish Emma, Maeve and Danika the best of luck on Sunday as they are part of the Wexford Team competing in Round two of the National League in Morton Stadium. Training has now finished for the season, see you all in September.
As the Tidy Towns Adjudicators will be in the area shortly, the group would encourage everyone to make an effort to keep their area clean and tidy. Now is the time to paint that wall and to tidy up the garden. Please don't forget the bit outside of your property that we just couldn't get to. Every little help is appreciated. The group meets up every Wednesday evening at 6.30 and on Saturday mornings at 9.30 in the Memorial Park if you wish to assist us in our endeavours.
A WEEE (Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment) cage only for small Household electrical goods such as toasters, kettles, electric drills and a container for the recycling of fluorescent tubes is situated at the back of the Railway Social Club. Our under-14s were in action against Marshallstown. Despite getting off to a slow start we followed it up with a superb second half performance. The girls battled hard against a good side and it was tough going throughout. Overall a good team performance where we were probably unlucky not to come away with at least a draw. Well done girls.. The final result was St Mary's Rosslare 4-06 Marshallstown 5-05.
All teams continue to train with very good numbers participating.
