Rosslare Harbour

SS 'St David' (III) at Rosslare Harbour

This year marks the 50th anniversary since this popular ferry sailed out of Rosslare for the final time. Built by Cammell Laird Shipbuilding Company, Birkenhead, and launched on February 6, 1947, by the Countess of Dudley, wife of the chairman of the Great Western Railway Company, the ship served the Rosslare - Fishguard route from 1948 to 1969.

Rosslare Maritime Enthusiasts, a voluntary group based at the Rosslare Harbour Maritime Heritage Centre, have commissioned an original painting by maritime artist Brian Cleare showing ss 'St David' alongside at Rosslare in the mid1960's. The painting, measuring 18'x 28' with frame, will be raffled off at Murphy's SuperValu, Rosslare Harbour, on Saturday, June 8.

A coffee morning is being held at the Maritime Centre on Sunday, June 2, at 11.30 a.m., where the painting will be on display and there will be an opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket. All proceeds towards the upkeep of the Rosslare Harbour Maritime Heritage Centre. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Camogie Club news

Our under-14s played their first championship match of the season away to Bannow. The girls put in a superb performance. The match ended in a draw which was a disappointment to the girls as they were the best team on the day. It won't be long before this team are winning matches. The girls continue their season with a number of challenge matches and get ready for the next round of the championship.

We were invited to participate in Caman Leinster in Abbotstown sports centre in Dublin. Thanks to everyone who sponsored our under-12 girls. The sponsorship helped greatly with the cost of the bus, meals etc. There continues to be great numbers at training across all ages and grades.
