Leader grant

Tomhaggard Social Centre Committee are delighted to announce that they have been awarded WLD Grant aid towards upgrade of Fire Safety and painting of Exterior and Tower at the Social Centre. Contracts will be signed shortly with work due to start in the coming months.

It's time to book your tickets for our pre-festival performances of this year's drama circuit production, 'Dreamland' by Jim Nolan. Performances will take place from February 14 to February 16 in the National Opera House, bookings online at nationaloperahouse.ie or by calling the box office 053 9122144. A flavour of the play: 1934, a rural pub in a village on the south coast of Ireland. Returned Yank, Johnny Kinnane has eight hours to salvage the rapidly decaying carcass of a 60-foot whale. General Eoin O'Duffy plans to attend the Blueshirt Dance in the Parish Hall while a 16-year-old would-be jockey dreams of victory in the Cemetery Sunday Races and a Jewish refugee with a clarinet and a clapped-out truck sets out to make a new life for himself and his daughter. An electricity generating bicycle, an open air jazz dance and a daring triumph of the imagination in a climate of communal hysteria these are just some of the elements which combine to form this fantastic piece of theatre. Under the brilliant direction of Breda Hayes, the hardworking cast are as follows: Johnny - Seán Carthy, Dinny - Will Troy Walsh, Teddy - Colm Doyle, Cassidy - Diarmuid Buttimer, Beate - Justine Murphy, Stefan - Chris Maddock, Doc - Shay Hannon and Grace - Trish Boyce.

Walking Track Clothing collection: New year, new you. Out with the old and in with the new. No better time to get rid of all old shoes, old bags, old clothes. Drop off points at every training session, at pitch during matches and also to the Hair Boutique. Don't worry about condition, all clothes will be taken. Together we will get this walking track, a track that will be very beneficial to all in the community. Kilmore AC

CROSS COUNTRY - Well done to all our senior athletes who conpeted today in the Mr Oil County Masters Cross Country Championships in Adamstown.

Fiona Kehoe won the Women's 4,000m race, in fine style, Jackie Carthy finished second. Sinéad O'Brien and Sinéad Fortune also ran very well in tough underfoot conditions. (positions TBC). Kilmore AC won the team title once again.

Nicky Foley, Michael O'Flaherty and Seán Doyle all ran the Masters Men's 6,000m race. Nicky finished in 15th place. Michael and Seán's positions TBC.

Some of these athletes will now have their eyes set on the Irish Life Health National Masters Cross Country on February 9 at Avondale House, Wicklow.

In the Juvenile Relays, our under-16 team of Niamh Fortune, Freya Thompson, Kate O'Flaherty and Arwyn Thompson had super runs to claim the county title in style. Well deserved, girls.

GOOD LUCK - This Thursday is the Mr Oil County Secondary Schools Cross County Championships. Adamstown will play host to the race. Good luck to our members running.

COUCH TO 5K - This is now back every Monday at 7 p.m. in Kilmore GAA Grounds. Perfect to kick start the New Year. All adults welcome to come along, improve their fitness with the ultimate aim of running 5k.

TRAINING - Younger Juveniles training on Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6.30 p.m. in Kilmore GAA grounds. Older juveniles and seniors also starting at 6.30 p.m. now. Training every Saturday morning at 10 a.m., on the track in Enniscorthy. New members, aged seven in year of competition always welcome. Contact Mary on 087 7564888.

Bowls

Kilmore Seals had a very good win in the county indoor bowls league on Wednesday, January 22, in the Stella Marius Centre over New Ross Beta, who is in second place in the county league. Final score was 10 points to seven for the Seals. Seals team was Joe Barry, Margaret Howlin, Séamus O'Keeffe and Noel Howlin. On Wednesday, January 29, the Kilmore Gulls will be playing Slaney Pride in the SMC at 2 p.m. Best of luck to the Gulls.

General meeting of ARA

Kilmore Active Retirement Association held its annual general meeting on Thursday, January 23, in Mary Barry's with a very good attendance present.

Outgoing chairman Tom Dunne presided and he outlined highlights of the year past in his address and also extended sympathy to members who had suffered bereavements during the year, he thanked the members and his fellows officers for their support during the past year.

Hon secretary Des Behan gave a detailed account of the year's activities in his report while the hon treasurer Mai Sadler gave a very satisfactory financial report for 2019. All reports were adopted.

Election results for 2020 were chairperson - Tom Dunne; vice-chairperson - Margaret Byrne; Hon secretary - Des Behan; Ass secretary - Ann Lawless; treasurer - John Rossiter; PRO Séamus O'Keeffe. Social committee - Pat and Tom Dunne, Margaret Byrne and Noel Howlin. Membership fee of €20-0 was agreed on and should be paid as soon as possible. Next meeting will be on Thursday, February 13, at 2.30 p.m.

Community lotto

There was No jackpot winner this week. There was one match-three winner. The winning numbers were 4, 19, 20 and 29. The match-three winner was Aiden Power. The next lotto draw will be held on Tuesday, January 28, and the jackpot now stands at €4,000.

Southeast Country Music Festival will be held on Sunday, July 26, at Killag, Duncormick, Co. Wexford. Strictly Come Dancing

Saturday, March 14, will be St Anne's GAA Club's Strictly Come Dancing semi-final Night this will take place in the Gymnasium in Bridgetown Vocational College where our 10 Couples will go head to head/toe to toe to qualify for the final, only five Couples go into the final. (Kilmore GAA Club's semi-final Night is Friday, March 13) and final will be held on April 4.

Charlie White and Ciara Doyle's Strictly Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, March 22, at 5 p.m. upstairs in the clubhouse. More details to follow.

5km Family Fun Run/Walk

On Sunday, February 2, Áine and Paddy will host their Strictly Come Dancing Fundraiser with a Family Fun Run/Walk.

Registration will commence at 11.20 a.m. and the Fun Run/Walk will start at midday. Entry fees are €5 per adult and €3 per child. Other activities include Hang Tough Challenge - Crossbar Challenge - Penalty Shootout Challenge and Face Painting for children. We hope to see lots of support for Áine and Paddy on Sunday, February 2.
