Glynn-Barntown: A massive congratulations to the Wexford Surf Life Saving Team, who represented their county proudly in Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo at the National Surf Life Saving on August 24 and 25. We had a great number of Glynn-Barntown dedicated Competitors and Coaches on our team and wish to extend gratitude and congratulations to all.

Following a great summer of training on Curracloe beach the season has now unfortunately come to and end, culminating with the all-Irelands in Sligo. We are already looking forward to continuing our training courses in October in Ferrybank Pool. Well done to all.


A Music Session by Jack Curran, in aid of Wexford Hospice Homecare, will take place in Declan's, Killurin on Saturday, September 7. (Due to a bereavement and illness the event had to be rescheduled). All Singers and musicians most welcome to attend for what is sure to be a great night of entertainment. A raffle will take place, along with plenty of great music, powerful singing and much craic. Looking forward to seeing everyone from 9 p.m. onwards.


A big thank you to everyone who attended the HOPE Cancer Support Centre Bingo Night in Glynn recently. €250 was raised. Our next bingo event is on Sunday, September 8, at 4 p.m. Come on down and try your luck. We look forward to seeing you there.

This is a busy week for the club as we have reached not one, but two all-Ireland Finals for the second year in a row. Our ladies' team will be battling it out with neighbours Adamstown, making this the first all Wexford final in history. They will be hoping to bring home the CJ Haughey Cup for the fourth year running.

Our mixed team will have a rematch of last year's final against the Heath from Co.Laois. The team have made huge improvements since this time last year and are hoping to bring the Syntax Cup back to Wexford.

Both teams have worked so hard and both are unbeaten so far this season. We wish you all the very best of luck. The finals take place this Saturday, September 7, in Mountmellick GAA grounds.

Our under-16 camogie team had a super win on Thursday evening v Oulart-The Ballagh in championship. Final score 5-20 to 4-3.

Our camogie club will hold its disco on Friday, September 6, 8.30.11 p.m. for first and second years only. Admission by ticket only.


Well done to our under-9 hurlers who had three great wins in their three games at the Rower/Inistioge tournament on Saturday.

Our under-8 footballers also put in two fine performances on Saturday day morning in Ferns.

Our Minor hurlers put in a great performance last weekend in the Premier semi-final but missed out by three points to St Martin's. Well done to all involved who have worked so hard and made super progress with these boys.

Well done to our under-13 footballers who advance to the final following a semi-final win over Horeswood on Wednesday last.

We wish all our youngsters the very best of luck as they head back to primary or secondary school. We hope they and their families have a healthy enjoyable year - look out for each other. We also wish a happy, fruitful year to the staff of both Glynn NS and Barntown NS and welcome Ms Roche in her new role as principal in Barntown NS. We thank Ms O'Brien, for her years in Barntown NS and wish her great happiness in her retirement.


Well done to our junior footballers who defeated Kilrush last weekend.

Our Senior footballers were unfortunately beaten by Fethard last Saturday evening.

Active Retirement news

Kilmore Active Retirement Association members will resume activity after the summer holidays on the week commencing September 2. Indoor bowls will resume in the Stella Maris Centre on Tuesday, September 3, at 7 p.m. in preparation for the county league which commences in mid September. On Thursday the fifth we will have our monthly meeting in the GAA clubrooms at 7.30 p.m. to which all members and intending members are requested to attend.

All in Kilmore ARA would like to extend deepest sympathy to Margaret Howlin on the death of her brother which occurred on Tuesday last. May he rest in peace.

Scout Registration

Scout registration for the new Scout year will take place on Wednesday, September 4, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Tomhaggard Social Centre. Meetings will resume for Cubs, Scouts and Ventures on Wednesday, September 11, from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and Beavers Saturday, September 14, 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Priority will be given to siblings of existing members and those on the Waiting List.

There are no places available in Beaver Section 6-8, very limited places in Cub Section 9-11, and spaces available Scouts 12-15 and Ventures 15-18. If you wish to go on Waiting List for next year you can attend registration night or contact 087 6858480. Due to increase in Scouting Ireland fees, registration fee is €55 which can be paid in installments, and subscription has been increased to €4 per week.

Dancing at Camross

Liam Mannering will have all our dance enthusiasts flock to Camross Ballroom on Friday, September 6, next for our monthly First Friday dance with dancing from 9.30 p.m. till late. Adm. including the tea is €10, also free draw for tickets for October dance. Liam and Marie are very popular at Camross so come along, meet up with old friends, dance the night away and go 'home sweatin'.

Annual Concert

The annual concert will be held in Camross Hall on Sunday, September 29. at 7.30 p.m. with a host of entertainers ensuring that the audience will have an enjoyable night once again. Full programme later.

Knitting/Crochet Group

The Wexford Knitting and crochet group will be back from their summer break on Thursday, September 5. We meet up every Thursday at 7 p.m. at St Joseph's Community Centre, Bishopswater.
