Blackwater: Launch of 'By Land and Sea' - The official launch of the songbook and double CD 'By Land and Sea - Songs from Blackwater and Beyond' will take place in the Blackwater Lodge Hotel on Sunday, December 1, at 5pm.

A singing session will follow which will feature many of the singers, songs and recitations involved in the project, all of which relate to the Blackwater area and its surrounds. The session will be hosted by traditional singer Aileen Lambert, who facilitated the project with professionalism and expertise.

Michéal Marrinan, traditional singer and songwriter from Dungarvan, will officially launch the songbook and double CD which is the culmination of 12 months work by a community of singers, historians and song enthusiasts from the Blackwater area and surronds.

Thanks to all involved especially the Wayside Players Drama Group and County Wexford Arts Department for their support. Performers involved in the project are as follows: Eddie Black, Christine Black, John Breen, Colm Brennan, John Byrne, Kathleen Byrne, Denis Carroll, Jim Connor, Hughie Doyle, Mick Doyle, John Furlong, Aileen Lambert, Pat Leacy, Senan Lillis, Grace Murphy, Matty Murphy, Joan Nolan, Paddy Scully, Paul Tobin, Deirdre Tobin, Maeve Townsend, Damien Walsh, Kevin Waters, Bridgie Whelan and Mary Jay Whelan. Rita Carroll is to be thanked for her research and Anne McLoughlin for transcribing the many songs included in the project. Big thanks to all for their interest and commitment.

Tidy Town AGM

The Blackwater Tidy Town AGM will take place on Monday, December 2, at 7 p.m. in the Blackwater Lodge.

Active Retirement

The Active Retirement AGM is on Tuesday, December 10, at 2.30 p.m. in the Lodge, election of officers, refreshments and music. All members are encouraged to attend.

The Christmas dinner is in the Lodge on Saturday, December 14; cost of meal (four course) €20. Please bring a spot prize to value of €5. Those interested in attending, please contact Kate on{087} 2840457 before December 4 please.

Christmas Shopping Bus

Why not get all your Christmas shopping done under one roof in one day, and beat the December crowds and leave the car at home. On Saturday, November 30, a bus will leave Blackwater at 8 a.m. and head to Oulart (for collection at 8.20 a.m.) and then head straight to Blanchardstown shopping centre where you can browse to your hearts content with over 180 shops including Smyths toys, Debenhams and Marks and Spencers, plus many many more shops.

The bus will arrive in Blanchardstown at 10 a.m approximately and leave at 5 p.m, leaving loads of time to get your bits and pieces done. The cost of the bus is only €20 per person. For further details, call David at 087 9562978.

Many thanks from Downs Syndrome Association to all who contributed so generously to their recent church gate collection taken up at Crossabeg church. The amount realised was €199.15c and they thank you once again for your generosity.

Christmas Storytelling

The Christmas session of storytelling at Kyle Forge will take place on Sunday, December 1, at 8 p.m. With a roaring fire to keep you warm, the patrons will entertain you with witty anecdotes, songs, recitations and music. In keeping with the Christmas spirit, mince pies and lots of goodies will be there to tempt you with a cup of tea during the break. There is no admission and a great nights entertainment is guaranteed.

Annual collection

The annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal collection takes place in all churches around the diocese on the weekend of December 7 and eight. Your support is as always much appreciated.

The annual general meeting of Crossabeg/Ballumurn GAA Club will take place in Kyle Forge, Crossabeg, on Friday night next, November 29 at 8 p.m. All members and anyone interested are invited to attend.

Annual Christmas Coffee Day

Preparations are well under way for the annual fundraising coffee morning which Annis Kehoe is planning and which will be held on Saturday, December 7, in Kyle Forge. From the time you step into the Forge, there will be a roaring fire and you will be warmly greeted with a cup of tea or coffee and lovely cakes and buns.

This year Annis has again decided that all money raised will go towards the local Crossabeg-Ballymurn community centre development project at Garrywilliam. During the event, there will be lots of tarts, buns, mince pies, Christmas cakes and puddings, jams, vegetables, etc on sale, just in time for Christmas. A raffle will also take place, with lots of lovely prizes to be won. For further enquiries, you can contact Annis at 087 2426146.

Athletic Club AGM

St. Killian`s AC will hold their annual general meeting in the school in Crossabeg on Tuesday, December 3 at 8 p.m. The committee would love to see lots of parents in attendance and there will be a cuppa and refreshments on offer too. No one is obliged to take on a job but offers of help with admin or minding children at training would be most welcome.

Annual Christmas Party

The annual Christmas party for the senior citizens of the Screen/Curracloe area will take place in Hotel Curracloe on Sunday, December 8, You are invited to attend at 2.30 p.m for dinner which will be served up at 3 p.m. Following the dinner, all guests will be entertained by music and song. The organising committee look forward to seeing everyone there.

Castlebridge Handball club held their annual general meeting recently. The following officers were elected ; Tom Rossiter (chairperson) Paudie Devereux (vice-chairperson) Virginia Rossiter (secretary) Dara Cloake (treasurer) John Roche (Juvenile Officer) John Roche/Paudie Devereux (Coaching) Virginia Rossiter (PRO) Congratulations to Joe Devereux and David Doyle, who were recently crowned under-17 60x30 all-Ireland College Champions. This was a hat-trick for the duo as they also claimed the titles of under-17 all-Ireland 60x30 and 40x20 Doubles winners in 2019. The club would like to extend their sympathies to the family of the late Bill Stapleton. RIP.

Table quiz

Castlebridge Handball Club are hosting a table quiz which will be held in the Porter House, Castlebridge this evening, Tuesday, November 26, at 8 p.m. Entry fee for a table of four persons is €20. There will also be a raffle and spot prizes on the night.

Split-the-pot winner

Congratulations to Curracloe national school split-the-pot winner, Elaine Hayes, who won €120. Envelopes are on sale in all the local Curracloe businesses as well as the school for €2 for one draw, six draws for €10 or 12 draws for €20. The next draw takes place on Wednesday, November 27, Development lotto.

Results of the Curracloe United lotto draw for Sunday, November 17, The numbers drawn were 5, 6, 13 and 16. There was no jackpot winner and three match-three winners who each received €50, Theresa, Mandy and Lorraine, c/o T Kehoe; Diane Redmond, c/o Barry and Su Murphy, Ballyvaloo. The weekly draw takes place every Sunday night at 9 p.m.


Weekly winners of the partners 45 in Hotel Curracloe were Pat Curran and Blain Parnell. Cards are held every Thursday night at 9 p.m.

Coffee morning

There will be a coffee morning in aid of SERT Bus in Mernagh's lounge on Thursday, 28th. Nov. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in aid of SERT Bus and the Hope centre. We would appreciate your support. Hope to see you all on the day.

Pop Up Gaeltacht

The next Pop Up Gaeltacht will be in Mernagh's lounge on Friday, December 6, starting at 9.30 p.m. The idea is for people to meet informally in a relaxed atmosphere and to use whatever bit of Gaeilge they have. Craft Fair - Thank You

A sincere word of thanks is expressed to the Parish Pastoral Team, who organised the recent Craft Fair and to all who helped set up the hall and organise the day in its entirety. The ICA provided welcome refreshments. Thank you to Lizzie Kinsella, who ran a raffle on the day. Thanks also to Willie and Bernie Hayden, Ann Doran and the Kinsella family who donated prizes for the raffle. The raffle itself raised €280.

The proceeds of the Craft Fair totalled €460. An overall total of €740 was donated to parish funds. This support is very much appreciated and thanks is expressed to all who helped and supported this event.

Light Up the Village

This Community based idea to bring a bit of Christmas Spirit to the village this year. On Saturday the seventh. Dec. the trees in the street will be lit up in conjunction with the trac-tor run for Pieta House. On Tuesday the 10th. Dec. a Community Christmas Night will take place on Powers Range. There will be a Remembrance Tree to remember our loved ones who have passed on. There will be carol singing, tea and coffee and mince pies. The children from the School will be asked to draw Christmas pictures and same will be hung on the tree.

There will be a box in Freemans for names for the Remem-brance tree - €2 per name and three names for €5 - the money donated will be given to charity. All are welcome to attend this memorable night.

SVP Christmas Appeal

The annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal takes place in all of the churches of the diocese of Ferns on the weekend of December 7/8. For some Christmas is 'most worrying time of the year.' Gratitude is expressed for your consistent generosity down the years. Your support has saved some from a lifetime of poverty.

Poker Classic

Poker classic continues every Friday night in Mernagh's Lounge Oylegate at 9.30 p.m.

Walking Track

The lights will be on at the walking track at the GAA Grounds every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the facility is available to all in the community, so come along and stay fit over the winter months. The couch to 5k group meet Wednesday evenings. All welcome to take part.

Baby and Toddler Group

Baby and Toddler Group gather every Tuesday (Term-Time) in Glenbrien Old School Centre from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is an opportunity for young children and their carers (parents/grandparents/childminders) to meet. Bingo in Mernaghs

The bingo in Mernaghs is now being run to raise much needed funds to assist with helping the girls in Coláiste Bride Enniscorthy to work with the IHCPT trip in Lourdes, bingo commences at 9.15 on a Thursday night and all support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.
