Bannow-Ballymitty: Shoe Box Appeal - Sincere thanks to all who contributed to the shoe box appeal. We collected 316 boxes which are on there way to Africa.

We got €130 in donations also. A special thanks to Bredas corner Shop, Philomena and Danescastle National school, Ballymitty National school, Clongeen national school, Grantstown Day Care Centre, Pierce for the transport and John and Alice for all their help. You will make some child happy this Christmas.

School Concert

Danescastle NS present their Christmas Concert Mary Poppins Junior in Carrig Community Centre on Wednesday and Thursday, December 11, and 12, at 7 p.m. Admission €5.

Study Centre

The study centre in Wellingtonbridge will not be reopening after Christmas. Thanks to all that attended last year and the support from parents.

Sad passing

Deepest sympathy to Mary Carthy and family Ballygow on the death of her sister Bridie Sullivan née Furlong, who passed away in Dublin on Sunday, December 1, Her funeral was in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Ballyroan, Rathfarnham on Wednesday with burial afterwards in Kilmashogue cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Social dancing

Dancing schedule in Tír na nÓg: Thursday, December 12 - no dance, Saturday, December 14 - Christmas dinner dance four course meal music by Mary Prendergast tickets €25 all groups welcome. Thursday, December 19 - party night with Delta Dawn, Thursday, December 26 - no dance Tuesday, December 31, new years eve - El Paso.

Next dance in Carrig-on-Bannow community centre will be on Friday, December 20, th with music by Brendan Lee.

GAA club news

The lotto draw will take place this evening, tickets are €2 which can still be purchased from Doyle's pub and Sea Breeze Dry Cleaners in Carrig, in Wellingtonbridge in Wallaces Hardware, Costcutters and Tír na nÓg and from Stafford's in Tullycanna and also from any club officer in the complex. The jackpot is at €14,000 and a reserve jackpot of €4,700.

A monthly meeting will take place in the complex on Monday, December 16, at 8 p.m. The following positions will have to be elected on the night: Assistant secretary, Registrar (At least two people), Irish Officer and Children's Officer. Election of officers for Coiste na nÓg will also take place on this night so all should be in attendance to have your say.

Congratulations to the Rackards League Boys, who won over Marshalstown on Monday, December 2, in St Patrick's Park Enniscorthy. Many thanks to the parents, teachers and our own GPO Officer Lloyd Colfer for his great guidance and training to the boys in the county final.

Well done to the Ballad Group and Solo Singer Ciara Breen on representing the club on Saturday last in Birr in the Scór competition.

The Ladies' Football Club welcome back Shane Murphy for the 2020 season. We hope to see a few new faces entering the team and we thanks Shane for coming back for another year to the Ladies' Footballers.

Corach News

A review of last weekends soccer: Corach under-15 lost 1-0. under-13 lost to 2-1 away to All Blacks (Christrian Dake with the goal). under-11 boys lost 5-0 to Campile.

The under-14 girls had an outstanding three nil win versus Cushinstown. Laura McCarthy and Sarah Bennett (2) were on the score sheet. Congratulations to both of these players upon their selection for the county under-13 and under-15 sides respectively. The club is so proud of you.

Speaking of which. Well Done to Lorcan Breen, who played a part in the 3-1 win over Kilkenny for the Wexford under-18s.

The Men's A lost 3-2 to Adamstown with Niall Harney and Aaron Diskin on the scoresheet.

The B side went down 6-2 to Camolin with Jordan Hayes and Lorcan Breen scoring.

Finally the ladies had a strong 9-0 win over St Joesph's with Grace Donovan scoring five and Niamh Millar and Aisling Waters both getting two apiece.

This week's split-the-pot was won by Annie and Adam O'Brien collecting €515 to enjoy. Thanks to all who support us.

Holocaust survivor

Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental, who has been awarded a Human Rights Award by the organisation representing the country's barristers. The award was in recognition of promoting and educating people about the importance of remembrance and reconciliation.

He is an amazing man and we were privileged to have him give a talk in Grantstown Community Village Friday, November 27, to a full house and you could have heard a pin drop when he was speaking about his experiences. We wish to extend our congratulations to Tomi on receiving this award.

Kilmore

Hamper Appeal

Kilmore Scouts and Women's Shed are taking part in the Wexford People Helping People Hamper Appeal this year. As in previous years, instead of bringing weekly subscriptions next week youth members are bringing in non-perishable foodstuffs, toiletries etc. The Women's Shed have a donation box in the hall for contributions. All contributions will be distributed in hampers to needy families before Christmas.

The items which can be donated included tea, coffee, cereals, jars, tins, pasta, rice etc, toiletries and personal hygiene products, treats, small toys, socks, gloves etc and can be dropped at Tomhaggard Social Centre Monday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., Thursday 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. or any Scout or Women's Shed member.

Community Christmas Bingo

There will be a community Christmas Bingo on Sunday, December 15, at 3 p.m. in the FDYS Centre, Bridgetown. Tea, coffee and raffle on the day and plenty of sit beside prizes.

Kathleen Browne Festival acknowledgement

The Kathleen Browne arts and literary festival committee would like to thank the following county and national bodies for their support and commitment to our event, Wexford County Council and particularly the staff in the community development section and also Failte Ireland and Irelands' Ancient East.

Bridgetown Information and IT Centre

WINTER LEAGUE - The final of our winter league took place on Sunday. Results will follow in next week's news.

REGISTRATION NIGHT - Kilmore AC will hold a registration night for 2020 on Tuesday, December 10, at 6.30 p.m. in Kilmore GAA Centre. Due to new AAI rules the registration is due earlier this year. Juvenile athletes - €20 Adult members - €30 New members aged 7+ welcome. Mr Oil County Intermediate Cross Country Championships Kilmore AC will host the Mr Oil County Intermediate Cross Country Championships on Sunday, December 8. Venue and time TBC Distances, Women 4k, Men 8k.

COUCH TO 5K - This is now back every Monday at 7 p.m. in Kilmore GAA Grounds. All adults welcome to come along, improve their fitness with the ultimate aim of running 5k.

TRAINING - Younger Juveniles training on Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6.30 p.m. in Kilmore GAA Grounds. Older juveniles and seniors also starting at 6.30 p.m. now. Training every Sunday morning at 10 a.m., location confirmed in parents WhatsApp group. New members, aged seven in year of competition always welcome, contact Mary at 087 7564888.

Kilmore Parish Journal

The 48th. edition of Kilmore Parish Journal was launched on Friday, December 6, in the Stella Maris Community Centre, Kilmore Quay by Mr Tony Power, Retired Principal of Bridgetown College. The journal is now on sale in many local shops at a cost of €12. It reflects the history, traditions and culture of Kilmore Parish and records sports and other activities of parish life in recent times. We hope you enjoy reading it.

Active Retirement

Kilmore Active Retirement Association extends sympathy to Noel and Margaret Howlin and Deirdre Brady on the death of John Howlin and his nephew Thomas which occurred last week. The AGM fixed for last Thursday was cancelled as a mark of respect and will be re-fixed for early January 2020.

Bowls

Kilmore ARA will hold the usual bowls practice on Tuesday the 10th at 7 p.m. in the Stella Maris Centre at 7 p.m. On Wednesday the 11th their will be two county league games in the Stella Maris Centre between Kilmore Gulls and Bree at 1 p.m. and Kilmore Seals and Ballagh Black at 2.30 p.m. This will complete the first half of the county bowls league for this year resuming in early January 2020.
