Christmas Gathering

Our Christmas gathering was a great success and enjoyed by all on Sunday, November 24, in our parish hall. Our deceased members and friends were remembered at Mass. May they rest in peace.

We had plenty of dancing, entertained was varied from recitations, accordion playing and songs from Bridie Murphy, Pat Barry, John Jackman, and John Ennis which was appreciated by all.

We would like to thank Peter Doyle Supermarket Ballymurn for his generous donation of the Turkey/ham, the use of his staff and facilities.

Thanks to Ballymurn Youth Club for their generous contribution of monies/spot prizes, Hugie Byrne, Anvil Bar, John and Breda Redmond, Dockrells, and all the other people who contributed, monies, food and the enormous amount of spot prizes received.

A special word of thanks to our Community Employment Supervisor and participants for all their work, the catering team who were joined again by Ballymurn youth club. These young people are brilliant hard working with excellent interpersonal skills, who willingly took direction from their leaders. They are a credit to their families.

We thank john Doyle and Paddy and Shay, who provided the music on the night.

Dates For Your Diary: Sunday, December 8, Taize Service at 7 p.m. Monday, December 9, Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. As the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception falls on a Sunday the Solemnity will be transferred to Monday, December 9. Mass will be celebrated on Monday the ninth at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Come along to Santa World at Clonard Community Centre. Clonard Guiding Unit

The guide units annual carol service will be on Tuesday, December 10, at 7 p.m. Come along and enjoy some Christmas Spirit. Also, on that night is the Christmas raffle. Prizes include a Christmas blanket, a lovely hamper from Sam Macaulay's and a cuddly snowman. Tickets on sale every Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. in Clonard Community Centre.

All proceeds go to the Wexford Oncology Unit. Tickets €2 each or three tickets for €5.


Pop Up Gaeltacht

The next Pop Up Gaeltacht will be in Mernagh's lounge on this Friday, December 6, starting at 9.30 p.m.

'Light Up the Night' Road Run

Oylegate Vintage Club are hosting their annual 'Light Up the Night' road run in aid of Pieta House. The run takes place on this Saturday, December 7. Registration starts at 4 p.m. in Oylegate Community Centre, leaving at 6 p.m. All vehicles are welcome (tractors, trucks, cars) Carol singing, prize draw, and refreshments on the night. Please come and support this cause.

GAA Syndicate Winners

November syndicate winners of €100 were Paddy/Marguerite Bolger and Bryan McCormack, lotto winnings were €98. December draw will take place on December 20.

Social dancing

The next date for social dancing in Oylegate Community Centre is Sunday, December 8. Music is by Michelle Murphy. Michelle is making a name for herself on the social dancing scene so this is an opportunity to come along and enjoy a great night singing and dancing with our local artist. Dancing from 9.30 p.m. Adm. €8.

Christmas Jumper Night

Christmas jumper night will be held in Mernaghs Lounge Oylegate on Saturday, December 14, and all are welcome to come along.

First Responders

The first responders are now up and going and are looking for new members to join this worthy team. Coffee morning.

At a recent coffee morning held in Mernagh's lounge Oylegate a total of €800 was raised for the SERT bus and the Hope Centre. Many thanks to all who supported the morning, it is greatly appreciated.

Musical 'Joseph'

The popular musical 'Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat' will be staged in Oylegate Community Centre in March next year. Auditions for primary school children's choir will be held in the community centre on Thursday the fifth. Dec. at 7.30 p.m. when the musical director will be in attendance. These auditions are open to fifth. And sixth. class students, boys and girls.

ICA News

The next ICA meeting will take place on this Wednesday, December 4, at 7.30 p.m.

Congratulations to Mary Somers, who won a recent Federation Competition, Foliage in a Jam Jar.

The annual ICA coffee morning will take place in Mernagh's lounge on Thursday, December 12, at 11 a.m. All are most welcome to come along.

Book Launch

On behalf on the GAA A big congratulations to Joe Casey, who recently launched his book '60 Years at the Cutting Edge' in Mernagh's Lounge Oylegate. The book is currently on sale and is available from Pat Murphy 087 2206305, from Mernaghs Lounge, or from any commit member.

All proceeds from the book is going to Oylegate GAA Club.

The annual senior citizens Christmas party will take place on Sunday, January 19, 2020.

'Light Up the Village'

This Community based idea to bring a bit of Christmas Spirit to the village this year. On Saturday December 7 the trees in the street will be lit up in conjunction with the trac-tor run for Pieta House.

On Tuesday December 10 a Community Christmas Night will take place on Powers Range. There will be a Remembrance Tree to remember our loved ones who have passed on. There will be carol singing, tea and coffee and mince pies. The children from the School will be asked to draw Christmas pictures and same will be hung on the tree. There will be a box in Freemans for names for the Remembrance Tree - €2 per name and three names for €5 - the money donated will be given to charity. All are welcome to attend this memorable night.

SVP Christmas Appeal

The annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal takes place in all of the churches of the diocese of Ferns on the weekend December 7/8. For some Christmas is 'most worrying time of the year.' Gratitude is expressed for your consistent generosity down the years. Your support has saved some from a lifetime of poverty.

Poker Classic

Poker classic continues every Friday night in Mernagh's Lounge Oylegate at 9.30 p.m.

Walking Track

The lights will be on at the walking track at the GAA Grounds every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the facility is available to all in the community, so come along and stay fit over the winter months. The couch to 5k group meet Wednesday evenings. All welcome to take part.

Baby and Toddler Group

Baby and Toddler Group gathering every Tuesday (Term-Time) in Glenbrien Old School Centre from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is an opportunity for young children and their carers (parents/grandparents/childminders) to meet. For more information, Contact Claire Atkinson 087 1373579.

Bingo In Mernaghs

The bingo in Mernaghs is now being run to raise much needed funds to assist with helping the girls in Coláiste Bride Enniscorthy to work with the IHCPT trip in Lourdes, bingo commences at 9.15 on a Thursday night and all support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.
