Songbook and CD now available
Songs of sea tragedies, hurling matches and local heroes are among the tracks on a new double audio CD which accompanies the 72-page songbook 'By Land and Sea - Songs of Blackwater and Beyond' which was officially launched in the Blackwater Lodge Hotel on December 1.
This compilation of songs, recitations and poetry from the Blackwater area and its immediate environs were collected by local ballad enthusiasts during 2019 under the watchful eye of traditional singer and traditional arts specialist, Aileen Lambert, Project Facilitator.
The project features 27 individuals performing 33 separate songs and recitations.
The project was supported by the Wayside Players Drama Group and Wexford County Council Arts Department via the Creative Communities Scheme.
The songbook and double CD is now available from Suttons Supermarket, Blackwater and the Trading Post, Ballinamona, The Ballagh at a cost of €15. Alternatively contact Aileen Lambert at 087 7552593 to receive a copy by post or send to a relative for Christmas.
Fundraising coffee morning
A most successful and enjoyable coffee morning and sale of Christmas cakes, puddings, mince pies, jams, etc together with vegetables, firewood and wreaths took place at Kyle Forge on Saturday, December 7, Organised by local lady Annis Kehoe, all proceeds from same will go to the local Crossabeg-Ballymurn Community centre development at Garrywilliam, Crossabeg. The Forge was most welcoming with a roaring fire and plenty of cups of tea or coffee on the go together with fancy cakes and buns.
Business got under way by 9.45 a.m. and continued unabated for the next three hours or so. During the morning, raffle tickets were also on sale with lots of good prizes on offer. Thanks are extended to all who helped out in any way, those who catered for all the guests, those who generously provided items for sale on the day, those who attended and bought so generously, and also supported the raffle.
Annis is also to be commended for the many hours spent baking and getting everything prepared for the occasion. It was a formidable undertaking, but one that Annis has down to a fine art. Well done, Annis.
The community centre committee also were appreciative of Annis's efforts and her generosity in donating all funds to their fundraising campaign.

Ferrycarrig hotel was most festive and welcoming on Sunday evening, December 8, when the annual Christmas party for the senior members of the community took place. Over 90 guests and the committee members sat down to a lovely dinner served up by the staff of the hotel.
Following the meal the guests were treated to some lovely renditions of Christmas carols and other songs by the children's choir from Crossabeg national school and relaxed and enjoyed each others company for some time afterwards. The honour of cutting the cake went to Rev Arthur Minnion and parish priest Fr Jim Finn.
The organising committee wish to thank most sincerely the management and staff of the Ferrycarrig hotel for the warm welcome extended to their guests and the wonderful meal served up; to all who contributed so generously to their fundraising raffle and gave generous donations for the raffle, to Philip Kennedy, principal of Crossabeg national school for arranging for the children's choir to attend the event, to their parents and to Ms Niamh Cullen, who conducted the choir on the night. All in all a very enjoyable occasion for everyone. Christmas Coffee Day
The Porter House in Castlebridge will hold their annual Coffee Day tomorrow, Wednesday, December 18, from 11 a.m. till 7 p.m. All the usual treats on the day plus a super raffle. All proceeds to Castlebridge Day Care centre. Your support would be much appreciated.
The organisers will also have their Christmas Bingo the same night starting at 9.30 p.m. There will be a large jackpot, with loads of spot prizes and 'Sit Beside Me' prizes. Live music as well by John Kenny and Pam Rossiter. This is a night not to be missed.
Congratulations to the winner of the recent split-the-pot draw in aid of Curracloe national school, Tracey Lawlor, who won €119.50c. Envelopes are on sale in all the local Curracloe businesses as well as the school costing €2 for one draw, six draws for €10 or 12 draws for €20. The last draw for this year takes place tomorrow, Wednesday, December 18.

Curracloe school news
On Wednesday, December 11, Curracloe Music Group visited Wygram Nursing Home to perform for the residents and wish to thank all in Wygram for the hospitality and warm welcome. They were also very happy to perform in Hotel Curracloe for the annual Castlebridge Christmas party on Sunday, December 15.
The school will hold their Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 18, at 1 p.m and all are welcome to attend. School calendars for 2020 are available to buy from the school office and cost €8 each, two for €15 or three for €20.
Thanks are extended to Simon Donohoe, who visited the school on Thursday, December 12, with the Bob O'Keeffe Cup.

Well done to Joan Kavanagh and friends, who handed over €5,000 to the Cardiac Unit, Wexford Hospital as a result of their wonderful fundraising efforts in Bob's Bar, The Ballagh, The Oulart Hill Bar, The Crosses, Kilmuckridge, Corrigan's Pub, Blackwater and 'Pat the Chap' Vintage Club. Money was also raised from 'Cash for Clothes' and a scrap collection.

Martin Storey Tournament
The finals of the annual Martin Storey Tournament were played in Oulart on Sunday, December 8. Congratulations to Monageer-Boolavogue on winning Division 3, to Duffry-Rovers on winning Division 2 and to the home team, Oulart-The Ballagh on winning Division 1.
Míle buíochas to Willie Cleary for organising the Tournament, to Martin Storey and Ray Harris, who presented the medals to the winning teams and the 'Most Improved Player' trophies. Thank you also to Hamish Stuart, who led the parades playing the Bagpipes. Well done also to club chairman Bartle Sinnott and the club volunteers who looked after the pitch, car-park, refreshments, dressing-rooms, stewarding and umpiring, ensuring that everything ran smoothly on the day.

The prize-winners in October were Aodhagán and Emer Swords (€100), Michael and Margaret Leacy (€50), George Blackburn (€50). Kevin Kennedy, Lar Sutton and Mary and Paidh Doyle won similar prizes in the November draw.
The numbers drawn on Monday, December 9, were 4, 14, 29 and 31. The Bonus number was 10. The prize-fund was 15,000 and there was no outright winner.
