Heartiest congratulations to Johnny Fitzgerald, Ballymotey, who was 90 years young on October 1 and was honoured by his family who organised a celebratory party in the Courtyard, Ferns, with a meal and music, on Sunday, October 6. Johnny, who was born and reared in Blackwater parish, is held in high esteem in this neighbourhood where he and his late wife Mary reared their son James, who resides there with his wife Bridget.
Johnny's sister Mrs Peg O'Connor lives in Monavullen and his brother Frank lives in Castlebar. For many years he was a popular member of the staff of the Talbot Hotel, Wexford. Johnny was adamant that he didn't want presents, so on his behalf, family and friends generously donated more than €1,000 to the friends of St John's Hospital, Enniscorthy.
