Adamstown: Adamstown GAA - Important dates for your diary: Adamstown GAA are holding the following events in the coming weeks: Breakfast Morning in Adamstown Community Centre on Sunday, November 10, from 10am to 3pm. All are welcome to come along and enjoy a delicious hearty cooked breakfast served with a smile.

Table quiz in Foley's Bar, Newbawn on Friday, November 15, at 8.30 p.m., please come along and support. Mass for deceased members of the club will take place on Saturday, November 16, at 7.30 p.m. in St Abban's Church.


The weekly '30' Card Game continues in the community centre this Friday, November 8, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering will be: Angela Dooley, Elizabeth Doyle and Maria Carty. On Friday, November 15, it will be: Catherine Moore, Kathleen O'Connor, Nancy Walsh and Tina Whelan. Shamrock Vintage Cub AGM

Annual general meeting of the Shamrock Vintage Club will take place in Raheen Hall this Tuesday, November 5, at 9 p.m. Membership due on that date.

Important Development Meeting

Cllr Pat Barden will host an important Development Meeting this Thursday, November 7, in Adamstown Community Centre at 9 p.m. Can all clubs, businesses, organisations, residents and undividuals ensure they attend this important meeting to voice their opinions on enhancing and developing amenities within our village.

Adamstown NS parents' association

November Memorial Tree Fundraiser. Remember your loved ones in a special way this November. 'Remembrance Tree' memorial wooden discs personalised with your loved ones names - €4 each.

Wooden discs can be ordered from Yvonne English at 087 9578746; Michelle Payne at 086 8516291 or order from any of the parents' association members. They will also be available to purchase after Mass during the month of November.

The personalised wooden discs will be placed on the 'Remembrance Tree' in St Abban's Church during November, the month of the Holy Souls. All will be especially remembered in the November Masses in St Abban's Church from Monday, November 18, to Saturday, November 23.

They will then be returned to the family as a memento. All proceeds will go to the Adamstown National School's fundraiser for an upgrade to the school playground.

Rounders Awards

Congratulations to Sandra Thorpe, who received the ladies' team player of the year and Ann Marie Dunphy, who received the mixed player of the year award at their recent club celebrations in Foley's of Newbawn.

Adamstown Active Retired

There will be a meal in the new Café, beside Brad Óg's Pub, this Thursday, November 7, at 1.30 p.m. All are welcome to come along.

Church news

Altars and Decoration : Thanks to the ladies from Brocurra for looking after the church and Altars for the month of October, it is now the turn of parishioners from Coonogue for the month of November.

The November Masses will take place as follows: Monday, November 18, Tomgarrow, Misterin, Rathkyle, Adamstown, Coolnagaree. Tuesday, November 19, Oldcourt, Brocurra, Doononey, Woodview Drive. Wednesday, November 20 - Newtown, The Leap, Knockreigh, Coonogue Thursday, November 21, Kellystown, Chapel, Raheenduff the Barracks. Friday, November 22 - Glenour, Ballyvergin, Rathsilla, Fairfields. Saturday, November 23, For all who died during the year. Mass in St Abban's Oratory will be celebrated at 7.30 p.m. each evening.

All present will receive a candle which will be left lighting before the Blessed Sacrament after Mass. Please return your envelopes as soon as possible, an offering is optional. You are welcome to attend every night or any other night.

Liturgical Calendars for 2020 are now available in the Porch of the church. Price €2. Ideal gift for families for Christmas, containing all the Major Feasts of the year. Please place money in candle shrine box.

Community Games

Hard luck to our under-16 camogie team who put up a great battle in their Co Premier final last weekend. Our girls trailed by just a point at half time but Kilrush got a much-needed goal in the second half and despite their hard work our girls couldn't close the gap. Final score Glynn-Barntown 0-8 Kilrush 1-12. Well done to all involved.

Coiste na nÓg

Our under-15 footballers bowed out of championship last weekend with a semi-final loss to a strong Fethard side. Hard luck, boys. Well done to all involved-players, management and parents.

Hard luck to our under-13 Rising Stars, who were unlucky to be beaten in the final last week. Well done on a great year.

AGM Glynn-Barntown Coiste na nÓg will hold its AGM on Sunday, November 22, at 7 p.m. All welcome to attend.

Coaching course

Note for all team managements: A Coaching Foundation course (first step on the coaching ladder) will take place in the clubhouse on four consecutive Wednesday nights commencing November 13. To anyone interested in getting involved with a team, it is vital to have completed a foundation level course, which will include the child protection module. Club Lotto

Results of draw on Wednesday, October 30, Numbers drawn were 12, 14, 22 and 27. No jackpot winner. One match-three winner - Liz McGarry. Jackpot now stands at €4,200. The next draw will be held in the Sycamore House.

Fundraising campaign update

I would firstly like to thank everyone who has already set up a standing order for our three-year fundraising campaign for Barntown Community Centre and to those who have generously donated to the fund. The committee is so grateful for your help to date. In order to rebuild the centre we need your help. We are continuing to ask households to sign up to our three-year fundraising plan.

All the money raised will finance the build, which will result in Barntown having a modern, accessible facility that will be open for use by everyone in our community. The sign up is less than €5 a week.

Please go to barntowncommunitycentre.ie and find the sign-up forms. There is also a donate button if anyone wants to give a once-off gift.
