Volunteers Needed Urgently - Voluntary Bus Drivers needed to bring the Residents to Sunday Mass. If you have an hour or two to spare any Sunday morning and have a license to drive a Minibus we would love to hear from you. You could bring them to Ballymitty or Carrig Church. ARA over-50s Group

Following our AGM of last week, our warmest and hearfelt appreciation was extended to our very popular retiring chairperson, Jack Handcock. Jack has served our Bannow-Ballymitty committe steadfastly over many years and has been engaged in every committee role, demonstrating a commendable level of committment and dedication to his duties. Jack will continue to be an active member of the group and is very deserving of retirement from official duties.

We offer a very warm welcome to Cathy Fitzharris, our new chairperson and wish her and the committee a productive and exciting year ahead.

While all normal activities continue, our next major event will be our annual Christmas Dinner in December.

Community Alert

A meeting and AGM of the local branch of the community alert group will be held in Ballymitty hall on Tuesday, November 21, at 8 p.m.


Dancing continues every Thursday night in Tír na nÓg with music this Thursday the 23rd by Richie Halpin, and Thursday the 30th Michael Ellard. Starts from 9.30 all welcome refreshments served.

Irish Dancing Classes

Irish dancing classes in Carrig Community Centre every Monday afternoon. Girls and boys from age three years up welcome; 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. - Junior and senior infants; 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. - all other ages. Contact Alice 087 9364255.


Deepest sympathy to Olive Quirke and family on the death of Johnny last week. Johnny originally from Broadway lived a number of years in Cullenstown and then in Carrig-on-Bannow. Beloved husband of Olive, father of John, Mary Ellen and Bridget and brother of Mary (Cunningham). Sadly missed by his loving family, relatives and friends. He reposed in Ryan's funeral home Wellingtonbridge on Wednesday, November 15, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Removal was on Thursday the 16th to the Church of Mary Immaculate and St Joseph, Carrig-on-Bannow for funeral Mass at midday, with burial afterwards in Bannow cemetery.

May he rest in peace.


There will be a Special double Bingo Night in Campile Hall on Monday Night, November 27, starting at eight o'clock at which Prize Money for Nine of the Eleven Games will be doubled on the Night which is over €2,100 in total for the normal admission price of Double book €10 Single book €7 and small book €3 all support would be very much appreciated.

Christmas sale

The annual Christmas Sale in aid of Balloughton Church funds will take place on Saturday, December 2, from 2 p.m. featuring all the usual stalls - raffle, Brid a brac, plants, books etc. A delicious afternoon tea will be served. Your support as always would be greatly appreciated.

Sad Passing

Deepest sympathy to Dave Walsh and family Bannow on the death of his wife Eileen Walsh née Colfer. Eileen is survived by her husband Dave daughter Maeve sons Shay and Pete. Sadly missed by her loving family grandchildren, relatives and friends. Removal from her daughter Maeve's house was on Thursday the 16th at 6.30 p.m. to the Church of Mary Immaculate and St Joseph, Carrig-on-Bannow. Funeral Mass on Friday the 17th at 11 a.m., burial afterwards in Bannow Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Ballymitty Hall Dates

Table quiz - table quiz in Staffords of Tullicanna next Friday, November 24, at 9 p.m. Proceeds in aid of Ballymitty New Hall Fund. Come support this fun night of trivia and brush off the cobwebs. Table of four is €20.

Sunday Breakfast - The next Sunday Cafe will take place on Sunday, November 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. How do you like your eggs cooked? We will be serving a tasty breakfast butty on the morning so come along and support and save yourself some washing up.

Monster Bingo - Monster Bingo is on Sunday, November 26, at 3 p.m. in Ballymitty Hall. €1,500 in prizes including Special page; €50 one line, €100 for two lines and €150 full house. Raffle and lots of prizes. Tea and sandwiches served.

Local Link Wexford provides a bus service from Carrig-on-Bannow Monday to Friday at 7.05 a.m. to Waterford. There is also a service to Wexford on Wednesdays and Saturdays and to Waterford on Fridays. Dancing at Camross

The December dance will be a fundraiser for Caroreigh Church Funds and will be held on Friday, December 1. in Camross Ballroom with dancing from 10 p.m. till late. Music by Brendan and Patricia Lee. Adm. €8 including the tea.

Passion Play

There was great interest expressed in Passion Play 2018 at the Open Meeting held in Camross Hall on Wednesday, November 15. last. Chair of the Passion Play committee, Michael Doyle, welcomed director Michael Stafford and Musical Directors Vicki Barron and Anita Cullen to the event. All three informed those present about their exciting plans for the project.

St Garvan's NS

Many congratulations go out to the girls from Taghmon and Caroreigh schools, who made history as they were the first team to win the Roinn A Rackard League final. They beat Piercestown by 4-4 to 1-3 in a great match under lights, last Thursday night in Taghmon. There was great delight when the cup was lifted by the joint captains, Lily Sidney-Kinsella and Emily Roche.

Many thanks to their teachers, Miss Leacy and Miss Forde for training the girls. Thanks also to the BOM of Taghmon school for sponsoring socks. A huge thank-you to Shane Carroll and all at the Silver Fox Restaurant, Kilmore, for sponsoring T-shirts and food for the celebrations after the match in the GAA Clubhouse.

On Friday there was further celebrating in both schools and the girls from Caroreigh went to Taghmon for an assembly where the cup was brought in by the joint captains, there were more speeches and photos. A presentation of flowers was made to Miss Leacy and Miss Forde.

Well done girls, you did yourselves and your schools proud.

Ladies' Football

Our under-14 girls had their end of year Presentation night in Leisure Max on Friday night. The girls had a great night and they received their Shield Runner-up medals and we also had two awards given for Player of the year which went to Laura Banville and Most improved player which went to Chloe Carroll. Well done to all the girls on a great year and best of luck to them for next year.

Our Junior A team held their medal presentation night on Friday night as well with a lovely meal in Mary Mcgees Country Bistro.

After the meal LGFA Co. Chair. Denis Nolan presided over the medal presentation and presented Player of the year awards to Ailish Sinnott and Julie Colfer.

In his speech Denis congratulated the team and their mentors on their fantastic achievements this year and wished them the best of luck in intermediate next year he also went on to congratulate all the teams within the club and the committee on what's been one of their most successful years to date. The ladies then headed up to Mick O's to watch the video of the match and to have a few bevies! A good night was had by all.
