Ballybrennan Patron

The annual Ballybrennan Patron will take place this Friday evening July 24th with Mass and Blessing of the Graves beginning at 7.30pm in the Graveyard.


The Comhaltas Seisiún Sessions, in association with Celtic Roots, take place in Bree Community Centre on Tuesday nights at 8.30pm for the months of July and August. Each Session begins with the serving of scones and tea / coffee followed by a full programme of Music, Song, Dance and Storytelling. Cost is €10 for adults with concessions for large groups and children. For bookings and further details contact 087-7535354.

Barn Dance

A Country & Western Barn dance will be held in Garry Byrne's store on Saturday September 5th. The band on the night will be the Colonials followed by a disco til late! Don't miss a great night's fun.

GAA News

The next lotto draw takes place on Wednesday July 22nd in Byrne's of Bree at 9 30. Jackpot remains at a massive €10,000. Congratulations to Alisha Furlong who matched 3 numbers in the last draw. Tickets are available in all local shops and from committee members.

Church gate Collection

The recent IPT church gate collection raised a total of €335. Thanks to all who contributed.

Bree CEP Visitation

Visitation of the Elderly in the Community has recommenced in recent weeks with two participants from Bree CEP calling on some of the elderly in the Community. This is a service organised in conjunction with the Active Retirement Group. If there is anyone who would like to be visited in the local area, please let the CEP Office know at 053 9247613.

Camogie News

Well done to the U12 girls and their mentors who took part in the Camán to Croker blitz day on Tuesday 7th July. A great day was had by all the girls and supporters that travelled with them.

Well done to the u12s who had a great win over Bannow on Monday night. Hard luck to the U14s who lost out to Cloughbawn on Tuesday. Best of luck to the U16 girls against the Duffry on Monday and also to the Intermediate women who play St. Ibars Tuesday night and Blackwater Friday night, both championship. The pitch is very busy at the minute with loads of different matches taking place. Keep an eye on our club facebook page to find out more.

Story telling Group

The Glenbrien Story telling group will have a great celebration of their tenth year. The celebrations will kick off in the Old School Centre on Wednesday next 22nd July at 8pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and join us in the celebrations a great night is planned with lots of super musicians and singers along with nice food and some super raffle prizes on the night.

If you would like to donate any confectionary buns or cakes or spot prizes for the night , it would be greatly appreciated thank you, please contact Mary Mernagh or any of the group.

Text Alert

Community Alert is currently being reactivated in the Glenbrien area. Following a community meeting on 15th June a committee was elected, with Pat Sludds as Charperson, Diane Glendinning as Secretary and Theresa Shanahan as Treasurer. A number of community representatives also volunteered on the night. From Monday 13th July these representatives will be calling to the houses in the Parish to hand out information and registration forms.

The Committee is asking for a contribution of €20 from each household which will help in the "set up" cost of the initiative. It will also cover the cost of registering1 mobile phone per household; each additional phone will cost €5.

If you miss the Committee Rep.when they call, you may also register your phone detailsand pay your contribution on either of the following dates: Monday July 27th or Wednesday July 29th from 8 -9pm in The Big Tree Pub in the village.

The support of everyone in the Community is vital for the success of this programme. Please join us on our facebook page and you can keep up to date with our progress the reps will be calling round in the coming weeks



The second annual Tractor Run will take place on Sunday 9th August in Ferrycarrig Park. Registration at 12 noon. Run leaving Ferrycarrig Park at 1pm. All vehicles welcome. Refreshments served after run. All registered drivers entered into draw for spot prizes. Top prize BBQ valued €250.

Our U8 camogie girls play a blitz this Saturday in Grantstown at 10 30am.

Our Juniors sadly had their league finals dashed by a 1 point defeat in the semi final last Wed in St. Patricks Park v Buffers Alley. However they begin their championship campaign on Tuesday evening in Killurin v Fethard at 7.30pm.

Our Seniors play the final game of the championship group v St Ibars on Monday evening.

On Thursday our U16s play Rathnure in the final game of the championship group in Rathnure at 7.30pm.

Hard luck to Laura Dempsey who lined out with Wexford Minor camogie team v Kilkenny in championship on Wednesday evening but were defeated.

Well done to Juvenile camogie player Niamh Buckley who was part of the winning Wexford U16 ladies football team who earned themselves an All Ireland final spot also last Wednesday evening.


A disco for 1st years and up will be held in the clubhouse on Friday 24th July 8.30-11pm. Admission by ticket only. Tickets €5 on sale in clubhouse on Tuesday July 21st 6.30-7pm or book your ticket AFTER 7pm on 087 785 8641.


Our 36 of our U7s and U8s made the trip of a lifetime to Croke Park last Monday where they spent a memorable day which included togging out in the dressing rooms, running through the tunnel and playing on the hallowed pitch itself. The icing on the cake was going up the Hogan Stand steps to lift the Liam McCarthy Cup individually! The boys had a tremendous day and represented their club and families with pride. Thanks to the mentors for organising the event and to the parents who attended.

The U9s and 10s boys made up 2 mixed teams and played in a Thomastown hurling blitz last Saturday. It was a great experience for the boys and an enjoyable few hours hurling for everyone involved.

The U16s were defeated by St Martins on Monday evening in hurling. Naomh Eanna Gorey didn't fulfil their Minor Football fixture with our boys on Wednesday last and so the boys were awarded the points.

The Minor hurlers set off for Galway on Saturday to take part in St Brendans hurling club 7 aside hurling tournament. Having won their 3 preliminary games comfortably they came up against Loughrea Galway in the final and went on a scoring rampage to defeat their opposition and lift the cup. Well done to all involved.

GAA club news

Our Junior hurlers qualified for a League Final with a 2.17 to 2.15 win over Bunclody last Friday. Hard luck to Senior hurlers John Leacy and Michael O Regan who were part of the Co. Intermediate hurling team defeated Wednesday evening by Galway in the Leinster Final.

CLUB GEAR: The club gear ordered at the end of May was distributed last Friday night. A number of gear orders were not collected and are in the club shop to be distributed next Friday evening July 24th 6.30-7pm sharp from the camogie dressing rooms. We would ask that customers collect or arrange collection of their order on that night. Outstanding money to be paid on collection.

LAdies football

Our U10 girls footballers played two great games on Tuesday evening v Shelmaliers but had their game cancelled Thursday evening due to rain. The U12 Ladies Football team played with great conviction on Friday away to Ballyhogue but Ballyhogue on balance deserved the win, next up is Clonard at home on the 11th Aug this will be a crunch decider for Division 2 South group so lets get behind our team! Our U14 girls football team had a good win this evening over Ballyhogue in Bree, winning 5-5 to 1-2. This was the final league match. They are now through to the Division 3 Cup Semi which is due to take place in the next week.

Our Junior Ladies suffered a defeat on Monday evening at the hands of Bannow Ballymitty.

The Minor ladies football semi final scheduled to take place on Thursday evening in Killurin had to be cancelled due to poor weather conditions. No new date as of yet.
